DC’s Top Halloween Events

We’re well into October, so bets are on that you’ve either had your Halloween costume planned for months… or you’re getting worried about looking weak. (Yes, everyone’s thought about dressing up like Tan Mom and Big Bird this year…)  So skip too much sun and Sesame Street, but don’t skip these awesome Fright Night, Boo Bash and Treat-tastic events:

  •  10/19 – HAUNTED OLD TOWN, VA AFTER DARK : Bars, Food, Live Entertainment and a Ghost Tour of Alexandria.  The bizarre and ghoulish tales of one of the most haunted cities in the world frighten… where our Founding Fathers  once lived! After the spook, the spirits continue on a bar hop around the the old haunts. $30
  • 10/21 – If you can’t handle Markoff’s Haunted Forrest (soooo scary!) but want to get in a harvest hayride, check out HOWL-O-WEEN with two and four-legged friends at Lowelands Farm in Middleburg.  Pumpkin carving, cider, and other seasonal festivities make for a fabulous Fall day to benefit OBG Cocker Spaniel Rescue. $20
  • 10/26 – BYT’s TEMPLE OF DOOM takes outrageous into sensory overload at the already spooky Sphinx Club (just what goes on in there?!)  A hypnotist, scare-aoke and other goulish good times make this a prime pre-Pumpkin Day party. Did we mention the Mummy Go-Go Dancers!? $25
  • 10/26 – Bringing back big hair and shoulder pads sounds scary enough… but have you seen all the neon lurking about lately?!  And the W’s using it to highlight its Halloween! NEON NIGHTS will rock 80s remixes, boo eye shadow and leg warmers, and David Bowie coming out of the Labyrinth (ok, well, maybe not quite)…  But because they know you look scariest in the morning, costume contest winners receive a sleepover package complete with champagne and breakfast in bed. All that and, proceeds benefit the Washington Humane Society. $40
  • 10/26-27 – Almost nothing’s is creepier than a cage.  Almost.  Costumes and crazy animal antics make BOO AT THE ZOO an annual howling good time.  Great for kiddies of all ages!  $30
  • 10/27 – HALLOWEEN GALA AND PARTY AT THE EMBASSY OF ITALY: An amazing evening of culture and creepers happens when the Italian Embassy fills its bag of trick-or-treats with an open bar, DJ, dancing, scary opera, scenic film and more.  Masks optional.  $96
  • 10/27 – One Boo you don’t want is from the bartending staff who’ll be judging MASA 14’s COSTUME CONTEST – the winner gets a complimentary bottomless brunch for 4! So dress in your most fashionably frightful for dancing and Devil Dogs, Zombitinis and other hair-raising mummy munchies.  Free Entry.
  • 10/31 – TRICK OR TREAT EMBASSY ROW WALKING TOUR – Who wants to walk house to house when there’s country to country!? Take candy collecting to a new – and international level – touring Dupont Circle and Embassy Row with a diplomatic tour guide in tow.  We hear last year’s little gobblins got the good stuff… impromptu personal tours of up to ten Embassies and Residences! $25
  • 10/31 – VIOLENCE IS SCARY– and so is this spooky scene where dressed up DC’ers eat, drink, and be scary to support DC Safe’s efforts to end domestic violence. $40
