L’Enfant Café is proud to announce the 11h annual Bastille Day party, a cultural celebration of all things French, on Saturday, July 11 from 3pm to 10pm. After celebrating the 10th anniversary on Vernon St last year, the folks at L’Enfant have decided to re-locate the fête to sister venue, Wunder Garten (150 M St NE), the all new beer garden space in NoMa.
Entry to this year’s event and D.C.’s biggest masquerade ball is $7. Advance ticket purchase is required and capacity is limited. Purchase online through www.lenfantcafe.com or www.wundergartendc.com. Guests will storm the Bastille via M St NE, just steps from the NoMa metro stop (Red Line).
The memorable performances have also moved to the new location, including can-can dancers, a New Orleans style brass marching band, burlesque dancers and the royal guests of honor, King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette.
The signature folly of the event, the world-famous ‘French Maid Relay Race,’ will take place at approximately 6pm in which racers, men and women, must each wear the risqué black and white maid costume while running back and forth across the street in order to fill a Champagne glass with soup spoons of water. Très chic! Contenders must pre-purchase a costume, with ticket purchase, before the limited supply is sold out.
Enjoy this full line up of entertainment or entertain yourself on the dance floor while listening to a host of live DJs and musical guests. Throughout the event, revelers have the option to sip on the official beer of Bastille Day, Stella Artois, or enjoy Leffe, Stella Cidre, red and white wine, and Champagne. DC Slices and Crepes Parfait food trucks will be on hand to dish out delicious snacks.
Like any good revolution, the celebration doesn’t end there. For the real Bastille Day, the team invites you back to where it all began: L’Enfant Café. On Tuesday, July 14, the French restaurant will offer happy hour from open to close, featuring $5 Stella Artois, red, white and sparkling wine, and highballs. A DJ will provide entertainment while French maids offer fantastique service (read: more entertainment)

On the evening of July 15, 2015, two high-rise construction cranes will come to life in a synchronized motion. Dance of the Cranes will consist of a choreographed dance performed by real crane operators in two two high-rise construction cranes towering over the streets of NW Washington, D.C.
At dusk, the cranes will slowly begin to pivot, rotate and sway in harmonized movement, each crane performing the same delicate motion hundreds of feet above the viewers on the sidewalks and in Milian Park below. As the performance progresses, the accompanying ambient music will echo through the surrounding streets, creating the sensation that the entire city is the stage for this complex performance and immersing the audience within the surrounding environment. Repurposing these utilitarian machines as the star performers in a delicate dance creates the opportunity to engage the audience and connect them to the city.

Union Market, the vibrant district in Northeast DC, will host its fifth annual DC Scoop event on Saturday, July 18 from 1pm-4pm. The highly-anticipated, free event, which drew over 3,000 Washingtonians last year, will take place at Dock 5, the indoor space above the market. Ice cream vendors from over 15 different creameries will put their best foot forward to win the crown title of “Best Ice Cream,” offering guests a wide array of free samples and servings for purchase, from gelato to ice cream sandwiches, popsicles to soda shoppe-style scoops.
Sweet tooths at the family-friendly event can participate in ice cream-eating contests, raffles, and giveaways. Timber Pizza Co. will provide savory complements to patrons’ favorite desserts, and Union Market vendors Buffalo & Bergen and Trickling Springs will join the fun to serve Root Beer Floats to kids.
Last year’s DC Scoop winner, Nicecream Factory, pairs liquid nitrogen with fresh local ingredients to create flavors for customers on the spot—a business model developed by owners Gilbert Welsford and Sandra Tran. “We were so excited to be recognized,” Welsford exclaimed. “There were so many incredible competitors participating in last year’s DC Scoop event.
