Seven craft beers from six local breweries have been artfully paired with a work of art from an Art League instructor. Local restaurants have chosen a brew/artwork coupling to serve as their muse to create the perfect complementary appetizer. Enjoy the numerous brew, bite, and artwork trifectas on Friday, October 3 from 7:00 to 10:30 pm at The Art League’s first Art on Tap event.

The Fourth Annual Taste of DC will take over Pennsylvania Avenue Saturday, October 11 and Sunday October 12, 2014. The largest Mid-Atlantic culinary festival will bring to the Nation’s Capital two days of the region’s very best food, drink and entertainment. WHAT: Attendees will be able to sample food from more than 70 of the region’s most popular restaurants, food trucks, caterers and purveyors; taste over 50 beers in the Stella Artois Beer Garden; sample more than 100 wines on the Taste of DC Wine Walk and enjoy nonstop entertainment on three different stages.
Saturday, October 11 – 3 PM: The 4th Annual Ben’s Chili Bowl World Chili Eating Championship. Contestants include some of the world’s most famous professional eaters including Joey “Jaws” Chestnut and Sonya “The Black Widow” vying for the World Championship title. The competition takes place on the Taste of DC Main Stage.
Sunday, October 12 – 4-8 pm: Heritage BBQ Cochon 555 Five local superstar chefs will create their version of a globally-influenced menu featuring whole heritage bred pigs. Each will make 6 dishes. Competing chefs: Scott Drewno (The Source by Wolfgang Puck), Erik Bruner-Yang (Maketto), Kyle Bailey (Birch & Barley), Joe Palma (Bourbon Steak), George Pagonis (Kapnos). Ten other chefs also will prepare BBQ items.
This event is ticketed: General admission: $100, VIP Early Admission $200. WHERE: Pennsylvania Ave. between 9th – 14th Streets NW

Art Buzz Rooftop Soiree to Support the DC Collaborative: On October 15th, Cher Castillo Freeman will host an Art Buzz @ Sunset rooftop soiree at the Embassy Row Hotel (2015 Massachusetts Avenue) from 6 to 9 p.m. Join on the rooftop for drinks for a great cause, munch on select appetizers and vie for raffled goodies with a beautiful view of the DC skyline. This event supports the D.C. Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative’s efforts to provide DC public and chartered schools with access to cultural opportunities throughout the Washington metropolitan area. Each year 30,000 students from DC public schools attend 500 + free performances at our nation’s world-class cultural institutions through their efforts. $1 from every draft beer and glass of wine ordered will be donated to the organization. In addition to “Barrel Fever,” Sedaris is the author of “Holidays on Ice,” as well as collections of personal essays, “Naked,” “Me Talk Pretty One Day,” “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim,” “When You Are Engulfed in Flames,” and his most recent book, “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls,” each of which became an immediate bestseller. The audio version of “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls” was a 56th Annual Grammy nominee for Best Spoken Word Album. Sedaris’s pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in “The Best American Essays.” There are a total of seven million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages.

A feature film adaptation of his story “C.O.G.” was released after a premier at the Sundance Film Festival (2013).
On Wednesday, October 22nd, culinary tastemakers chef José Andrés, restaurateur Danny Meyer and chef Charlie Palmer will host an exclusive dinner celebrating the culinary community’s 30-year long commitment to fighting hunger at home and abroad in partnership with Share Our Strength. The October 22 dinner will offer guests a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience cuisine from acclaimed chefs hailing from London, united for a cause: ensuring all children have the healthy food they need, every day.
The multi-course dinner will be preceded by a cocktail reception and will feature a live auction in which guests can bid on a variety of luxury culinary and travel items. All proceeds from the event will support Share Our Strength’s work to fight hunger in the U.S. and internationally.

These renowned London chefs have been inspired by the success of Share Our Strength’s work in the U.S. While in DC, they will have the opportunity to learn more about the strides the organization has made towards ending childhood hunger in America.

Project Create will host its 20th Anniversary Celebration, “Home is where the ART is” on Thursday October 23, 2014 from 6:00pm-9:00pm
at Paul Hasting LLP(875 15th Street NW, Washington DC 20005). The evening will feature an art exhibition by Project Create teaching artists and students, as well as a live dance performance by the Washington Ballet at THEARC. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, an open bar and music by DJ Trevor Martin.
