Oktoberfest at Wunder Garten @ Wunder Garten

Wunder Garten (1st & L St NE) is excited to announce the 4th Annual Oktoberfest which will begin Friday, September 28 and continue through Sunday, September 30th. This year’s celebrations include a big celebration on Saturday night and a Dogtoberfest on Sunday alongside a weekend of traditional German food, games, beer and pet-friendly events.

Each day will feature live Oktoberfest music and a special lineup of events and entertainments (see below) to bring the real Oktoberfest atmosphere to Washington. Draft beers in Märzen-style hail from Bavaria’s oldest breweries like Spaten, Weihenstephaner, and Hofbräuhaus, accompanied by a select lineup of seasonal, locally brewed beers. Throughout the weekend, Café Berlin will provide authentic German fare, including grilled bratwurst, bauernwurst, bretzels und obatzter, original potato salad, gurkensalat, and sauerkraut.

12pm to 4pmTraditional live Oktoberfest music by “Die Drei Band.”

2pm to 6pmDogtoberfest! Oktoberfest continues for humans and fur-babies, including a costume contest for best-dressed pets and a toy drive to support shelter dogs. Guests are encouraged to bring a *new* toy, blanket or food item to donate.

About Wunder Garten:

Inspired by the Bavarian beer gardens made famous in Germany, Wunder Garten began in 2015 as a pop-up beer garden, taking advantage of the unused lots throughout NoMa, giving the underserved residents of the neighborhood a fun place to gather with family and friends for ice cold beers and sunshine. In 2016 Wunder Garten moved to a more permanent location after signing a multi-year lease in the same neighborhood where they have been ever since. Wunder Garten has become known for their dog-friendly policies and annual celebrations of traditional Bavarian events like Oktoberfest, Fruhlingsfest and Winterfest.

The Walters Art Museum celebrates a year of transformation at its annual Gala & Party, a memorable event unlike any other in Baltimore. This year’s theme, Metamorphosis, unites depictions of growth and renewal in the Walters’ collection with the fashion of today, and commemorates the exciting events of 2018, including the opening of 1 West Mount Vernon Place.

Guests start the evening with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. on the Sculpture Court, followed by a three-course gourmet dinner served in the galleries. At the Party, which begins at 9 p.m., guests enjoy an open bar, light fare and desserts, and dancing on the Sculpture Court.

On October 15th, Chicago-based sommelier, author and founder of Shall We Wine, Regine Rousseau will host an evening of Words & Wine, presented by City Winery DC.
 
During the special event, Rousseau will guide attendees through a unique tasting experience, as she pairs a selection of finely crafted wines with thought-provoking poetry from her new book, Searching for Cloves and Lilies: The Wine Edition. Inspired by love, loss and life experiences, listeners will enjoy fun and flirty ballads, and soulful soliloquies, paired with red and white spirits that inspire similar tastes and flavors.

Think Local First DC (TLFDC) has named 35 finalists to honor at the second annual Local First Awards, Thursday, October 18, 2018, hosted by Sam Ford, ABC7 WJLA.

Chosen for their positive impact, local independent businesses, entrepreneurs, makers and artists alike were carefully selected by independent community leaders. Seven winners will be presented with the coveted Local First Award in the following categories: Maker, Ripple Effect, High Road, Green Thumb, Builder, Pioneer, and Community Champion.

Nearly 600 Washingtonians are expected to attend to support the local businesses that advocate for economic, environmental, racial, and social equity. Following the ceremony, guests will be treated to an official “Made In DC Marketplace” including: live entertainment, art installations, and samplings of DC’s best local eats and craft brews provided by Atlas Brew Works, DC Brau,3 Stars Brewing Company, Right Proper Brewing Company, BBQ Bus, Cavaand Sloppy Mama’s. LYFT is offering 20% to attendees going to or from the Local First Awards!

Shucktoberfest @ Shirlington Village

Copperwood Tavern is continuing the tradition of a fall festival in the Shirlington Village with Shucktoberfest, a craft beer and oyster festival featuring over thirty local craft breweries and cideries, and Waverly Point oysters from Northern Neck, VA. The event will take place on Saturday, October 20th from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Brewery tents, oyster tents, and food and vendor tents will line the streets of the picturesque Shirlington Village creating an inviting atmosphere for patrons and their pups! Guests who purchase tickets will be able to redeem them for beers and oysters.

The event is meant to highlight made in Virginia products and will showcase local artisans and their goods. Food tents of Shirlington restaurants will sell gourmet street-friendly fare for all to enjoy. For our younger visitors, family-friendly activities will be going all day.

Tickets are on sale now and are $25 until September 15th, when they will increase to $30 until the day of, where tickets will be $35. General admission tickets include 10 tickets. (1 TICKET = Beer – OR – Two Oysters). Guests may purchase additional tickets at the event.

Dana Tai Soon Burgess, the Smithsonian’s first ever Choreographer-in-Residence, and his company will respond to the amazing “Black Out” exhibition in a poignant modern dance work with video by designer Kelly Colburn on Saturday, October 27th and Monday, October 30th at the National Portrait Gallery, McEvoy Auditorium, 6:30pm.

Black Out: Silhouettes Then and Now,” an exhibition that explores the relatively unstudied art form of silhouettes—cut paper profiles—which were a hugely popular and democratic form of portraiture in the 19th century.

Arena Stage will host a silent and live wine auction on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Mead Center for American Theater (1101 Sixth St., SW). The event is helmed by Arena Stage Trustees Judith N. BattyGene Samburg and Beth Newburger Schwartz.

The evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a reception and silent auction, followed by a seated dinner, paired with wines donated by Total Wine & More. Event attendees will have the opportunity to bid on exclusive items and experiences throughout the event, including the Bordeaux Experience, valued at $5,000, where two couples traveling together will enjoy a three-night stay in a château in romantic Bordeaux, with VIP treatment, including one-of-a-kind vineyard and winery tours, private wine tastings and an insider’s look at winemaking in France’s most famous wine region. Also available for bid is a one-week stay in a four bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom private residence villa at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, valued at $20,000, with an infinity edged heated plunge pool, spacious covered terrace and patio, hot tub, panoramic Pacific Ocean view and full kitchen (3,600 feet of indoor space and 3,600 feet of outdoor space). “Howl” O’ween @ Radiator Patio

‘Howl-o-ween’ on the Pet-friendly Patio – Saturday, October 27

Radiator will host ‘Howl-o-ween,’ a weekend happy hour for humans and furry friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Human guests may enjoy $5 bar snacks including sriracha deviled eggs and charred shishito peppers from Executive Chef Jonathan Dearden and a cauldron of craft cocktails from the bar team. Plus, Radiator will be handing out trick-or-treat goody bags for all dogs joining this special Saturday afternoon happy hour, with extra doggy biscuits for the canines in costume.
