The Measure of a Man

by Pete Waters

On Thursday night, some of the District’s best-dressed – and some of those who wish to be – turned out at the Tyson’s Galleria location of Italian clothier Ermenegildo Zegna for fine food and fashion. Paolo Vaccari, a made-to-measure specialist from the century-old Milan-based men’s fashion house, was in town to preview the Fall 2011 fabrics… and share with Washingtonians some Italian style.

DC Magazine (the event co-Host) Publisher Peter Abrahams, Gano Cafe’s Jessica Tavares, DC Event Junkie Lisa Byrne, and Gilt’s Marissa Schneider noshed on hors d’oeuvres provided by Chef Fabio Trabocchi of Fiola in Penn Quarter as Vaccari and the Ermenegildo Zegna hosts worked with guests fit “great-looking” suits.

“The most important thing that needs to be considered in making a suit,” said Vaccari, “is the need to compromise between what the customer should wear and what [is] his perception of what he should wear…. It’s important to find a middle ground between what they think they need and what they really do need.”

In other words, it seems that sometimes the measure of a man is letting his wants go out the window.
