Hawn Advocates for “Mind Up” Meditation at Press Club

There were those in the crowd early last week at the National Press Club who had gone to high school with her, and there were those who had seen her career start in Bye Bye Birdie at a local theater in Silver Spring.  But the majority were just fans of her movies and wanted to know… when will we see you act again alongside Kurt Russell?!

“Never,” laughed Goldie Hawn, before amending, “Well, you never really know.”

Actually on hand to discuss her own Second Act (though she isn’t done with acting!) and self-professed IMG_2453“fascination with the brain,” Hawn’s appearance at the Press Club was an introduction to her foundation’s  “Mind Up” Campaign, which, according to Hawn, is “about learning to cope.. and the toolbox [youth] need to be socially responsible, to clear their minds and to reduce stress.”

Currently practiced at schools in six countries, Mind Up teaches students about brain function and how they can master their thoughts and emotions to perform better in school studies and social situations.  It’s an alternative answer, says Hawn, to school violence, bullying, and social anxiety.

“Our job as grown-ups and guiding lights is to make sure children are in their best state of mind,” she insisted.  “They can’t face this new world we’re living in without these tools.”
