DCity Smokehouse Revives Soul Food in the City

Tuesday night, Revive On-The-Go – the catering arm of Revive Events & Catering in the Bloomingdale img_2685neighborhood – hosted a VIP tasting party for its new eatery DCity Smokehouse.

Guests were invited to see the renovated space and behind-the-scenes action in the kitchen as Chef Rob Sonderman showed off each of DCity’s new menu items. Formerly the pit master at Hill Country Barbecue in Penn Quarter, Chef Rob partnered with Revive to create the ‘next step up’ in terms of DC bbq.img_2673

Classic dishes got a bit of zest — like the dry rubbed ribs smoked with cherrywood — a rival only to their own dry rubbed pit-smoked wings.  DCity also offers a variety of sandwiches, like the Brisket Champ, and burgers (check out the made-from-scratch vegetarian option!). If you are looking for non-meat dishes, we suggest the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Hush Puppies, or the Shrimp Po Boy.

Chef Rob’s passion for barbecue and soul food pairs perfectly with classic img_2677Revive favorites like Chicken & Red Velvet Waffles with Bourbon Syrup.  And Revive Creative Culinary Director Charese John, along with co-owners Scott Jacobs and Melvin Hines, have priced it right to become the ultimate neighborhood noshspot (dishes range from $6 – $12).
