Shakespeare Theatre Company Presents “As You Like It”

“All the world’s a stage,

And all the men and women merely players.” – Jaques, Act II, Scene VII

If you thought wedding season was over, think again! The Shakespeare Theatre Company, recipient of the 2012 Regional Theatre Tony Award, opens its 2014-2015 mainstage season with William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy “As You Like It.”

As You Like It

“As You Like It” follows its heroine Rosalind (Zoë Waites) as she flees persecution in her uncle’s court, accompanied by her cousin Celia (Adina Verson) to find safety and, eventually, love, in the Forest of Arden. One of his most popular comedies, this crowd favorite is bound to remind you why Shakespeare’s work is as timeless as ever.

As You Like It

“The center of this play, the heartbeat of this play, sits inside the character who, in my view, is probably Shakespeare’s most extraordinary achievement in writing about women: Rosalind,” explains Director Michael Attenborough. “I think Rosalind is the female Hamlet; she is complex, interesting, deep, and contradictory as Hamlet is. She’s smarter than everyone in the play.”

“As You Like It” will play at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 Seventh St. NW) from October 28 to December 14, 2014.  See here, for tickets and more information.
