6th Annual Pearls of Purpose Gala Held at Carnegie Institute

“You have accomplished more than I ever will in my lifetime,” said Tina Tchen, Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff to the First Lady, and Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls.  She spoke of the work of Andrea Powell, FAIR Girls Co-Founder and Executive Director, as well as those whom FAIR Fund helps.

Tchen, supporterss and members of the FAIR Girls program gathered last night at the Carnegie Institution to celebrate the 6th annual Pearls of Purpose Gala to benefit FAIR Girls, an organization dedicated to the education and empowerment of girls who have faced human trafficking or are at high risk of exploitation.

Among those who shared their stories at the gala was Teopistar Katusiime, a survivor of domestic servitude in Kampala, Uganda.  Generous supporters allowed Teopistar to travel to the United States for the Gala where she spoke of the impact FAIR Girls has had on her life and the difference she sees it making in other girls from similar situations.

In addition to heartfelt speeches, attendees shopped for jewelry handmade by the girls, enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, Georgetown Cupcakes, and eco-friendly cocktails by VeeV Açai Spirit while listening to a lively jazz band. A few lucky winners also took home great silent auction prizes — like sold-out concert and sporting event tickets, autographed sports memorabilia, and couture handbags.
