10 DC Places to Celebrate Crème Brûlée Day

Big thank you to the person who thought about topping vanilla custard with a brittle crust of caramelized sugar. It’s delicious! So delicious that it has its own National Day.

The dessert is best known as Crème Brûlée (“burnt creme” in French), also known as Crema Catalana and Trinity Burnt Creme, is celebrated on July 27th, and there are several places in the DC area to enjoy this creamy, crunchy, and decadent dish.

Here are ten of our favorite places in DC to savor crème brûlée:

La Grande Boucherie‘s version is a soft and creamy Malagasy burnt cream that diners are raving about.

Arlington’s Skydome Restaurant offers two choices — traditional or chocolate.

Le Diplomat‘s is a two-fer; Its vanilla bean crème brûlée comes with a madeleine on the side.

Bar Japonais‘s versions are both distinctly cultural and trendy, offering a ginger or matcha crème brûlée.

Diners rave about the simple elegance of the brûlée at Chez Billy Sud.

Bistro Bis at Hotel George tempts by pairing its sugar-crusted vanilla bean custard with a grand Marnier madeleine.

Bistro du Coin‘s classic crème brulée with vanilla bean is a fan favorite with one Yelp reviewer saying of its dish: “If you miss the creme brulee, you have missed one of those rare treats in life.”

DLeña offers its “The Carajillo” served tableside with licor 43 espresso.

Ocean Prime offers its version with a larger portion of vanilla custard accompanied by fresh berries.
