It began as a first response and care provider for those living with HIV. Fifty years later, Whitman-Walker prides itself as a leader in LGBTQ care and advocacy; a research center working to discover breakthroughs in HIV treatment; and one of DC’s trusted partners during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whitman-Walker hosted its 50th Anniversary Gala last week at the Salamander Washington, DC, with a “Fabulous Cocktail” event featuring special guests, including Tim Gunn (of Project Runway fame) and celebrity DJ Tryfe.

The night also raised about half a million dollars to support the center’s care and research programming.

For five decades within the nation’s capital region, Whitman-Walker has provided stigma-free care to anyone who walks through its doors.

In addition to this milestone anniversary, just last month, Whitman-Walker opened its Max Robinson Center in Southeast Washington DC.  Replacing the existing facility in Southeast D.C., the center will move to this new building, on the St. Elizabeth’s East campus.
