DC Emancipation Day Mini Market @ Heurich House Museum
Apr 15 @ 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM

The Heurich House Museum and Black Brew Movement present a special DC Emancipation Day Mini Markt on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 2-6pm in the museum’s biergarten, 1921.

In support of DC Statehood and a more emancipated District, guests are invited to shop from 5 Black owned local small artisan maker businesses while enjoying brews from 8 Black owned local beer brands in the Black Beer Garden. In DC, Emancipation still does not equal representation in the federal government after over 160 years.

The Black Beer Garden hosted by Black Brew Movement will feature tasting flights, which will require tickets. A la carte full pours will be available for purchase at the biergarten bar. Beers featured are from Black Beauty Brewery, Black Viking Brewing, Joyhound Beer Company, Liquid Intrusion Brewing Company, Patuxent Brewing Company, Sankofa Beer Company, Soul Mega, and Urban Garden Brewing.

A full list of makers will be announced soon.

The biergarten features firepits, heaters, and an opportunity to explore HOME/BREWED, an exhibit featuring 1,000 objects from the historic Heurich brewery.

RSVP to attend is requested, but not required. Beer flights for the Black Beer Garden can be pre-purchased. More information: tinyurl.com/emancipationday2023

Heurich House Museum’s Mini Markt program provides small maker artisan businesses with an in-person sales platform at their public Biergarten, which draws up to 200 people per day. Selected entrepreneurs sell their hand-made goods at “1921, a Biergarten” giving DC residents an opportunity to learn about their small business community. Mini Markt is part of the museum’s Small Business Development program which in 2022 supported nearly 120 local small-scale manufacturing businesses.
