Pati will sign copies of her book, Pati’s Mexican Table: The Secrets of Real Mexican Home Cooking (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt; Hardcover; $30), which showcases everyday Mexican dishes, from the traditional to creative twists.

ESPN 980 on-air personality, Washington Times sports columnist and Washington-Baltimore journalism legend Thom Loverro returns to the National Press Club Thursday, December 5 at 7 p.m. in the McClendon Room for another Piano Lesson hosted by the Young Members committee.

Loverro co-hosts “The Sports Fix” from noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday on ESPN 980 AM and is back for his second stint as Washington Times sports columnist. Loverro was previously at the Times from 1992-2009 before a three-year stint at the Washington Examiner. Loverro has been a professional journalist since 1977, including eight years as a news editor and reporter for the Baltimore Sun, where he covered government, politics and crime.

Loverro was voted Maryland Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association in 2009 and has won 27 national, regional and local journalism awards over his career, including a first place in the National Society of Newspaper Columnists, according to his website. Loverro has also written 11 books, many involving his deep knowledge of the mid-atlantic professional sports scene. Loverro is also passionate about non-mainstream sports like Washington and Baltimore’s boxing and horse racing scenes.

As his running feud with Capitals/Wizards/Verizon Center owner Ted Leonis demonstrates, Loverro is not afraid to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. Bring your career questions and Washington pro football takes Thursday, December 5 at 7 p.m. to the McClendon Room. This event is free for members.

Alexa Hampton Book Signing @ Four Seasons Hotel

On December 12, 2013, Georgetown Jingle will host a book signing with renowned designer Alexa
Hampton as she introduces her second book, Decorating in Detail. Hampton, who is the owner and designer for the firm Mark Hampton LLC, is a perennial member of Architectural Digest’s AD100, House Beautiful’s Top Designer list and a member of Elle Decor’s A-list. She is also one of the guest designers for the 8th Annual Georgetown Jingle, a holiday extravaganza hosted each year by Four Seasons Hotel and the design community to raise funds for Medstar Georgetown University Hospital’s pediatric oncology programs.

Hampton is the featured designer for this year’s event, decorating the prominent mantle in the lobby of the Four Seasons Hotel. Working with an assortment of seasonal décor including floral, antiques and wood workings, she will design a masterpiece vignette that will retail for $30,800—all of which will be donated to Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center to benefit pediatric patients. Hampton’s mantle and 17 Holiday Trees decorated by other designers will be on display and available for purchase at Four Seasons Hotel beginning December 4.

At Alexa Hampton’s Book Signing, guests will have the opportunity to meet the design icon and receive a personalized copy of her new book, Decorating in Detail. Coffee, tea and decadent holiday sweets will be provided by Four Seasons Hotel. Tickets to the Book Signing are $65, with a portion of each ticket benefiting Georgetown Jingle.

Russian eatery Mari Vanna will honor the city of Sochi, Russia during the 2014 Winter Olympic games by adding three, traditional Sochi dishes to their menu. On Friday, February 7th from 6 to 9pm, the Dupont hotspot will also kick off the games with an Olympics happy-hour, offering all sports fans a complimentary vodka shot and free bites from a pirozhki tasting station.
 
Sochi is one of the few cities in Russia that has its own unique, multicultural cuisine, with influences from bordering Georgia.
