MATZOBALL @ Online
Dec 24 @ 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM

MATZOBALL is hosting the largest Jewish singles speed dating experience on Christmas Eve at 9 pm. The virtual event will be held in 17 cities across five countries. Restrictions may keep the nightclubs closed, but it can’t stop people from getting dressed up for a chance to meet their soul mate online. The company has enabled special technology to help make the night a hit for all who participate, giving people a chance to meet Jewish singles in their geographic area.

MATZOBALL has held their famous Jewish singles party every year since 1987. Each year, it’s held on one night in select cities around the country. The holiday party is attended by Jewish singles looking to make the perfect match. MATZOBALL has a long reputation of bringing Jewish singles together, whether for one fun-filled night, for a friendship, or for a long lasting romantic relationship. Annually, there have been over 400,000 people who have attended the party.

This year, the MATZOBALL will be completely online due to COVID protocols. Participants can purchase their ticket to the event, get dressed up, and engage in a fun and festive speed dating experience like no other. The event will feature Regional Video Speed Dating, which will include pre-screened eligible singles. All of the speed dates will be held in a one-on-one setting.

The event will begin at 9 pm and will be broken down by region and age range. Each event will guarantee a minimum of 20-30, 5-minute dates, where the daters will then have the opportunity to anonymously choose who they felt they had a connection with. If the connection is mutual, they will be notified via email of their mutual connections 15 minutes after the event and will be given the opportunity to connect again.

Tickets to the event are $35, plus a $5 processing fee per person for the Christmas Eve event, and $55, plus a $5 processing fee for the professional’s speed dating event on Christmas Day. A combination ticket to participate in both events can be purchased for $75, plus a $5 processing fee. Age ranges people can choose from include 21-27, 28-35, 36-49, and 50+.

According to Guinness World Records, the largest known speed dating event, which drew 964 people, occurred on February 14, 2019, Valentine’s Day, in Dublin, Ireland. Matzoball anticipates five times as many people will participate in their event. This gives people the opportunity to help set a world record and find a match all at the same time.

Those who purchase a ticket to the hottest virtual party will receive a unique log-in link 24 hours before the event. They will be able to narrow their search by choosing their age and regional preferences. The event will also use fast match technology for those who feel they made a connection with someone. There will be an additional online speed dating event for professionals held on Christmas Day at 3 pm.  Space for this event is limited. For complete city information, ticket options and pricing, to purchase tickets, visit the website at: https://matzoball.org.

BMA x NMWA: Here and Now @ Online

BMA x NMWA: Here and Now
Join us for BMA x NMWA, a livestreamed monthly talk show co-presented by The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) and the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA).

For the first episode of 2021, educators from both museums consider artworks grounded in a particular place at a specific moment in time. They welcome UK-based, Nigerian-born artist Mary Evans to discuss her ephemeral, site-specific silhouettes. Evans’s works often reference historical events, including the Atlantic slave trade and enslaved labor, and their impact on contemporary culture. Her work Prospect was included in NMWA’s special exhibition Paper Routes—Women to Watch 2020.

Wind Down Wednesday: Hygge and Home

Wednesday, Jan. 27, 5 p.m.

Instagram Live @smithsoniannpg

During this long, cold winter, we invite you to wind down with a free virtual program that fosters creativity and mindfulness. In partnership with independent mixologists, crafters, artists and other experts, Wind Down Wednesday offers an optimistic approach to the middle of the week.

January is all about at-home comfort as we celebrate hygge and the serene portrait of author Marilynne Robinson from the exhibition “Her Story: A Century of Women Writers.” First, Megan Segarra of Meganda Kitchen will demonstrate her cocktail (or mocktail) recipe for infused spiked tea. Sip away while we discuss the portrait and read excerpts from Robinson’s beloved books. Then learn about candles and aromatherapy and center yourself through a meditative botanical watercolor workshop inspired by Robinson’s portrait.

‘I will tell you the truth about this’ Poetry Reading @ Online
Feb 11 @ 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

On Thursday, February 11 at 7:30pm EST, the Folger’s O.B. Hardison Poetry Series presents poet Maurice Manning sharing his work alongside recent Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith for a virtual reading from President Lincoln’s Cottage in Washington D.C.

Tickets for this virtual event are currently on sale. The suggested ticket price is $15, with a minimum, pay-what-you-can price level at $5. Tickets can be purchased at the Folger Box Office at 202.544.7077 or by visiting www.folger.edu/poetry.

After the virtual tour of the Cottage, Manning and Smith will read from their work in a round-robin
fashion (a few poems each in response to the other poet). Manning’s latest collection Railsplitter is
told in the posthumous voice of President Lincoln. Smith’s most recent book, Wade in the
Water takes an unflinching look at the ravages of slavery, the lives of Black Civil War soldiers and
America’s history on race, gender, immigration, and more.

Tracy K. Smith is the author of Wade in the Water; Life on Mars, winner of the Pulitzer
Prize; Duende, winner of the James Laughlin Award; and The Body’s Question, winner of the Cave
Canem Poetry Prize. She is the editor of an anthology, American Journal: Fifty Poems for Our Time,
and the author of a memoir, Ordinary Light, a finalist for the National Book Award. From 2017 to
2019, Smith served as Poet Laureate of the United States. She teaches at Princeton University.
Maurice Manning’s first book, Lawrence Booth’s Book of Visions, was selected by W.S. Merwin for
the Yale Series of Younger Poets. Manning’s other collections include The Common Man, a finalist
for the Pulitzer Prize in 2011, and One Man’s Dark. His current book, Railsplitter, is his seventh
collection of poetry. A former Guggenheim fellow, Manning teaches at Transylvania University in
Lexington, Kentucky and for the MFA Writer’s Program at Warren Wilson College.

Single tickets and subscriptions to the 2020/21 season of Folger Poetry—through May 2021—are
currently on sale. Subscribers have virtual access to all 2020/21 readings and to the archive of those
readings.
