Shop and dine in Old Town on November 30 starting at 11 am until close and get your map stamped to win the grand prize. Visit 10 of your favorite businesses to be entered to win. No purchase is necessary. Every stamp after your first 10 is another entry into the raffle. Shoppers can download their map on the Old Town Business website or pick up one in the participating businesses below.

Free Community Day
The first Sunday of the month is Community Day at NMWA! Visit us on Community Day for FREE admission to the museum—take this opportunity to explore our permanent collection and programs. Current exhibitions include: Judy Chicago—The End: A Meditation on Death and Extinction, which showcases feminist icon Judy Chicago’s newest works; Live Dangerously, featuring a collection of modern and contemporary photography; Women Artists of the Dutch Golden Age, which explores the lives and works of successful artists in the Netherlands during the 17th and early 18th centuries; and Betsabeé Romero: Signals of a Long Road Together, the latest installation in NMWA’s public art series.
Fierce Women Tours
Fierce Women Tours are also available from 1–2 p.m. during Free Community Days. Discover a diverse cast of fierce women artists who refused to let men define their place; pushed back on the limited roles society accorded them; and blazed trails as artists, activists and innovators. If you’ve participated in our “Fierce Women” tour and want more, this is your chance to meet a new squad of pioneering artists.

Giving Tuesday – Give a Little, Get a Snuggle

BRANDBOX is teaming up with local Northern Virginia dog and cat rescue organization, Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, to raise funds and awareness for the organization and promote ‘Giving Tuesday’. BrandBox will host ‘Give a Little, Get a Snuggle’ in front of their retail incubation concept. This event will feature puppies, who will later be available for adoption through WTAR. A minimum donation of $5 (cash and major credit cards accepted) will procure donors 5 minutes of ‘Puppy Cuddles.’ 100% of the donations collected will directly benefit WTAR and assist in funding their adoption program in Northern Virginia. The puppies on-site will be available for adoption through WTAR’s adoption event on Saturday, December 7th, at The PetSmart in Tysons Corner. BrandBox by Macerich, at Tysons Corner Center, provides a turnkey approach for high-growth, first-to-market brands to open and operate stores, and scale physical retail as a complement to e-commerce.
On Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Main Hall of Union Station, a consortium of partners, including the Royal Norwegian Embassy, the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce—Mid-Atlantic Chapter, Washington Performing Arts, Union Station, and exclusive media partner WHUR 96.3 FM, will present the annual Norwegian Christmas Tree Lighting to the people of Washington, D.C. This beloved holiday event, which attracted 5,000 guests in 2018, is presented free to the public and will feature performances by The String Queens, whose members have collaborated with artists such as Ledisi, Janelle Monáe, and Common, and the Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir.
In one of Washington’s most popular holiday traditions, which began in 1997, Norway will present a Christmas tree to the people of Washington, D.C., in recognition of the strong friendship between Norway and the United States, and in gratitude for America’s assistance during and after World War II. The theme for this year’s tree is the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These goals address the challenges we face as a global community and the 2030 target for achieving them. Specially designed ornaments and signage will represent the goals.

Norwegian Christmas Tree Lighting (6:00 p.m.)
Featuring The String Queens, the Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. The 30-foot tree is decorated with 20,000 lights and ornaments representing all 17 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Norway’s ambassador to the United States, Kåre R. Aas, will light the tree with a special guest, Member of the Norwegian Parliament Linda Helleland.

Darius Rucker and Mark Bryan of Hootie & The Blowfish along with some additional GRAMMY winning surprise guests will sing a few songs in celebration of Mrs. Rosa Parks. Tour Mrs. Parks D.C. Home-Away-from-Home; The Mansion on O & O Street Museum.
This new exhibit will focus on things people don’t know about her – like her 10 year residence O Museum in The Mansion, in Washington, D.C. Although Mrs. Parks is famous for being the mother of the civil rights movement, her activism and personal history is also a part of the underpinnings for today’s women’s movement.
ABOUT Darius Rucker Darius Rucker is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the GRAMMY award-winning band Hootie & the Blowfish and GRAMMY winning country music star. His third career GRAMMY award was for Best Solo Country Performance for his 4x platinum selling cover of Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel,” off his album, True Believers.
ABOUT Mark Bryan Mark Bryan is the multi-platinum, lead guitarist of the GRAMMY Award winning band Hootie & the Blowfish. He is known for their hits “Only Wanna Be with You”, “Hold My Hand”, “Let Her Cry”, Hootie and the Blowfish’s debut album Cracked Rearview Mirror went platinum 16 times, making it the 16th best-selling album of all time in the United States.

The Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center (RRB/ITC) is hosting the 8th Annual Embassy Showcase, Winternational, from 11 AM – 3 PM, Thursday, December 5, 2019. Presented by World Trade Center Washington, DC (WTCDC), over 50 embassies will be participating in this year’s event.
Last year, more than 4,000 guests attended this lively midday celebration of international culture, travel, tourism and trade. This year, there will be many opportunities for 1:1 interviews with diplomats, embassy exhibitors, sponsors and attendees. The free festival features a bustling global marketplace with more than 50 embassies promoting their countries through vibrant and interactive displays of visual art, food, handcrafts as well as travel and tourism.
The RRB/ITC is a preeminent forum in the heart of the nation’s capital advancing international commerce and cross-cultural dialogue. As a seamless, unifying framework, it provides a platform for building connections, fostering diplomacy, growing businesses, and creating a more prosperous U.S. and global economy.
