Kick-off the annual Capital Pride Festival at this exclusive after-hours event at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art. Get special access to spectacular exhibitions, including Jim Chuchu’s stunning Invocations, and enjoy curators’ talks, music, dancing, cocktails, and more.
In his deeply personal and visually mesmerizing videos Invocation: The Severance of Ties and Invocation: Release, versatile Nairobi-based artist Jim Chuchu draws on the language of rituals and the divine imagery of world religions to commemorate his journey to self-definition as an adult and as a gay man, while envisioning a more inclusive African future.
Chuchu’s torso creates powerful graphic patterns as it spins, splits, multiplies, and morphs to the track of house beats composed by the artist. A singer, songwriter, and music producer, Chuchu has created a special playlist for the event.

Washington Redskins teammates — cornerback Josh Norman and tight end Vernon Davis — announce that they will co-host the fifth annual White Party benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) and Norman’s Starz24 Foundation.
The highly anticipated summer soiree, originated by former Redskins player Pierre Garçon and with a head-to-toe all-white dress code, is taking place on Saturday, June 2 at Decades (1219 Connecticut Avenue NW). The sleekly-decorated rooftop boasts palm trees, tropical plants and greenery-covered privacy walls across the 2,500-square foot space, making for the perfect backdrop for the evening.
Local pro athletes, NFL executives, community leaders and Washington VIPs will rub elbows for a good cause, helping to raise money for BGCGW and Starz24 that will foster a new generation of innovative and talented future leaders nationwide.
“As a native Washingtonian, I have always wanted the best for my city, so giving back in this way is personally important for me,” says Davis. “It feels amazing knowing that our event will help make dreams come true for some of Washington’s best and brightest kids.”
“My Starz24 Foundation is all about developing future skills in our young people and the White Party will help us widen that reach,” adds Norman. “When Vernon and I talked about teaming up to make this event a reality, I knew we could have a real impact by working together.”
The White Party will feature a premium open bar, passed hors d’oeuvres donated by Barcode and a live auction.
With the help of top sponsors, Norman and Davis look forward to a night of fun and fundraising for BGCGW and Starz24 Foundation and the important work they do. Tickets are available for $100-$150 and can be purchased at https://www.

19, written and directed by Jennifer Schwed and Doug Bradshaw, with music composed by Charlie Barnett, is the dynamic and little-known story of Alice Paul, the suffragists and their fight to get women the right to vote— the 19th Amendment. The inspirational story of these fearless women is brought to life through jazz, spoken word, dance and audience interaction. June 9th at the Arts Club of Washington, the newly revised Act I, including all 19 original, new songs with piano accompaniment, will be presented! Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see how “the musical sausage is made.” Witness the creative process and be a part of something truly extraordinary! (This is a “staged reading” workshop. There will also be a Q&A with the creators after the performance!)
19 is A Through the 4th Wall Productions performance, proudly presented by FABUM.
For seating, please arrive 15 minutes early. There will be a full bar and light refreshments starting at 6:30pm.
Tickets: $20; Purchase HERE.

Now in its fourth year, Politics & Art is an annual event presented by Washington Performing Arts’ Mars Urban Arts Initiative and Councilmember David Grosso. The event’s theme this year is District Vox, a celebration of the human voice. Politics & Art: District Vox spotlights D.C.-based artists who use the power of their voices to inspire, entertain, and empower in showcase performances on three stages. The evening provides a snapshot of the vibrant artistry that exists throughout the entire District.
The presenters of this event are Washington Performing Arts and Councilmember David Grosso.
What: Politics & Art: District Vox
When: Thursday, June 14, 2018, 5:30pm-8pm
Where: The John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20004
Tickets: Free and open to the public, reservations required: https://politicsandart.
Politics & Art is made possible in part by the generous support of Washington Gas. Washington Performing Arts’ Mars Urban Arts Initiative is generously supported by Jacqueline Badger Mars and Mars, Incorporated.
This year’s lineup features performances by more than 25 acts, including a wide range of singers, songwriters, spoken word artists, actors, vocal ensembles, and bands. The artists come from all eight wards of the District, reflecting the important role of the performing arts throughout the community. Audiences can enjoy music ranging from go-go and R&B to opera and folk. Visual art works by students from DC Public Schools, including third graders from the Takoma Educational Campus and students from Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School, will be on display in the performance spaces.
“In a city where voices rise in song and speech it was exciting to establish a platform—through the Mars Urban Arts Initiative—for creative artists from all 8 wards who will perform, in words and music, at the seat of our local government: The Wilson Building,” said Jenny Bilfield, President & CEO of Washington Performing Arts. “Washington Performing Arts is grateful to Councilmember Grosso and community partner Washington Gas for celebrating the contributions of our local artists and arts organizations through Politics and Art: District Vox.”
“The symbiotic relationship between art and politics is inescapable, especially in the District of Columbia. I’m proud to host Politics and Art at the Wilson Building again to showcase the vibrant arts community that makes D.C. a world-class city and provides local artists and elected officials the opportunity to meet and discuss the bright future of arts in Washington,” remarked Councilmember Grosso. “This year is especially momentous as we celebrate dedicated funding for the arts, humanities, and creative economy which will provide strong, stable investments to grow our thriving artistic and creative sectors.”
