TV personality and entrepreneur Scott Disick will host Sugar Factory American Brasserie’s Grand Opening at Fashion Centre at Pentagon City Mall on Thursday, October 12 in Arlington, VA.  The Washington Women’s Leadership Initiative (WWLI.org) will host former FOX News anchor Gretchen Carlson at its October 16^th speaker event. Each attendee will receive a copy of Gretchen’s new book, “Be Fierce – Stop Harassment and take Your Power Back” (release date: October 17^th, 2017).

In 2016, Gretchen made a life changing decision to “walk off the set” and speak up about injustice in the workplace. The former Miss America, and mother of two, who became a star news anchor at FOX never imagined that she would become the face of the issue, but after she stood up, walked out, and spoke out, employees all over the world began to take the leap of truth and take back their lives, careers, and dignity, forever changing the way people fight harassment and anything else holding them back.

Gretchen will speak about her own experience and about injustice in the workplace at WWLI’s October event.

WHO                           Gretchen Carlson is one of the nation’s most successful and recognized news anchors and a tireless advocate for workplace equality and the empowerment of women. She most recently hosted “The Real Story” on Fox News for three years, and prior to that co-hosted the #1 rated cable morning news show, “Fox and Friends,” for more than seven years.

Carlson started her television career in Richmond, Virginia, as a political reporter, and later served as an anchor and reporter in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Dallas. She moved to the national scene as the co-host of “The Saturday Early Show” on CBS in 2000 where she also served as a CBS News correspondent covering the G-8 Summit in Genoa, Italy, the Timothy McVeigh execution, 9-11 from the World Trade Center, the Bush-Gore election, and many other national and international stories. She reported and produced a 30-part series on domestic violence that won several national awards.

In 2015, Carlson’s first book, Getting Real, became a national best-seller.

At this event, local restaurants, chefs, and bars donate food, beverages and/or their culinary skills to set the tone for a fun, casual evening. Food & Friends will be hosting a community Pie Day in support of its annual Slice of Life Pie Selling Campaign, which funds nutritious, home-delivered meals and groceries to the critically ill in our community. DETAILS:        The 11^th Annual Slice of Life Thanksgiving pie sale is a simple and delicious way for members of the public to support Food & Friends’ large-scale effort to deliver 1 million healthy meals this year to those in the community living with life-challenging illnesses. The goal this year is to sell 9,000 pies. Each pie purchased will provide ONE FULL DAY of meals, from our kitchen to delivery, for a Food & Friends client.

During the event, community members will have the chance to sample our Pumpkin and Apple pies and cast their vote for their favorite flavor! The winner of our “In Pie We Crust” election will go on a flash sale for the remainder of the afternoon. Everyone who votes will be entered into a drawing to win a full Thanksgiving dinner for 4, plus 2 pies.

Pies may be purchased directly from Food & Friends or through one of our corporate or individual pie sellers. More than 200 crafty bastards from all over North America will be setting up for a home run of a weekend on November 11 & 12 at Nationals Park when the 14th annual Crafty Bastards Arts & Crafts Fair, presented by the Washington City Paper (WCP), takes over the concourse. Single day and weekend passes to the festival are now on sale via the WCP website.

“The Washington City Paper has always strived to connect the voice and vision of independent artists with our readers. This festival creates an experience where consumers can discover unconventional, hard-to-find arts and crafts, meet the artists, and even make something themselves,” says the fair’s curator Wendy Silverman. “There’ll be surprises at every booth including unique home goods, clothing, punk-rock baby clothes, handcrafted jewelry, plush toys, DIY kits, screen-printing, original art, locally produced food, and much more!”
