Summary:

SUPERFIERCE—an organization aimed at creating a foundation of support, connectivity and resources to empower female artists will host a month-long art exhibit featuring more than 30 nationally and locally known female artists, photographers and sculptors. Artists include Anne Marchand, Ashley Longshore, Caitlyn Price, Dominique Fierro, Julie Wolfe, Kennedy Yanko, Lana Gomez, Maggie O’Neill, Maryanne Pollock, and more. These interactive installations will be on display with all work available for purchase. 25% of all proceeds will be donated to E-Beauty, an organization that supports women undergoing treatment for cancer through their wig exchange program.  Ongoing activation events are available to the public including an all-ages paint party, Art of Business networking event, and The Business of Beautiful panel discussion. And this year Superfierce aims to raise money to fund five mentorship programs between prominent and up-and-coming artists to further opportunities for women in the arts.  For more information, visit www.superfierce.org.

Food & Friends Pie Day @ Farragut Suare

Food & Friends will be hosting a community Pie Day in support of its annual Slice of Life Pie Selling Campaign, which funds nutritious, home-delivered meals and groceries to the critically ill in our community. During the event, we will be distributing information aboutSlice of Life and giving away FREE samples of our delicious pies that are for sale to raise funds to support Food & Friends’ mission.

DETAILS:        The 11th Annual Slice of Life Thanksgiving pie sale is a simple and delicious way for members of the public to support Food & Friends’ large-scale effort to deliver 1 million healthy meals this year to those in the community living with life-challenging illnesses. The goal this year is to sell 9,000 pies. Each pie purchased will provide ONE FULL DAY of meals, from our kitchen to delivery, for a Food & Friends client.

 

During the event, community members will have the chance to sample our Pumpkin and Apple pies and cast their vote for their favorite flavor! The winner of our “In Pie We Crust” election will go on a flash sale for the remainder of the afternoon. Everyone who votes will be entered into a drawing to win a full Thanksgiving dinner for 4, plus 2 pies.

 

Pies may be purchased directly from Food & Friends or through one of our corporate or individual pie sellers. Crafty Bastards @ Nationals Park

More than 200 crafty bastards from all over North America will be setting up for a home run of a weekend on November 11 & 12 at Nationals Park when the 14th annual Crafty Bastards Arts & Crafts Fair, presented by the Washington City Paper (WCP), takes over the concourse. Single day and weekend passes to the festival are now on sale via the WCP website.

“The Washington City Paper has always strived to connect the voice and vision of independent artists with our readers. This festival creates an experience where consumers can discover unconventional, hard-to-find arts and crafts, meet the artists, and even make something themselves,” says the fair’s curator Wendy Silverman. “There’ll be surprises at every booth including unique home goods, clothing, punk-rock baby clothes, handcrafted jewelry, plush toys, DIY kits, screen-printing, original art, locally produced food, and much more!”

Attendees can start an art collection, get a jump on their holiday shopping, or just treat themselves to something they never knew they have to have at booths from long-time, popular Crafty Bastards, like Cuddles and Rage, DeNada Designs, Eilisain Jewelry, Stitch & Rivet, Rocks & Salt, Marcella Kriebel Art & Illustration, and Twenty Two West. In addition, more than 60 first-time vendors will be participating in this fall’s fair, including:

VIDA-Thrive 5K Run/Walk @ East Potomac Park

On Saturday, November 18, VIDA Fitness is hosting its third annual VIDA-Thrive 5K run/walk at East Potomac Park (Hains Point). VIDA Fitness is donating 100 percent proceeds from the event to Thrive DC — a local nonprofit dedicated and committed to preventing and ending homelessness in the D.C. area. 94.7 Fresh FM’s hosts of The Tommy Show, Tommy McFly, Kelly Collis and Jen Richer, will emcee the race. Fairmont Christmas Tree Lighting @ Fairmont Washington DC

Fairmont Washington, D.C. Georgetown is pleased to announce its 14th annual tree lighting ceremony in the hotel’s Courtyard and lobby beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017.  Filled with tiny white lights and shimmering Christmas trees, the courtyard becomes a glittering crystal garden the perfect venue for a holiday celebration.

Families will take the chill off with complimentary hot chocolate and cookies as they listen to the award-winning Georgetown Visitation Madrigals perform holiday classics. Children will enjoy decorating holiday cards,   members of the United States Marine Corps Reserves will perform a presentation of colors, and Santa Claus and Rudolph will make a special guest appearance.  All families are welcome to take a photo with Santo in his Winter Wonderland Suite.

Kelly Collis and Tommy McFly, hosts of 94.7 Fresh FM’s Tommy Show, will serve as the masters of ceremonies.

The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will benefit The U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots Program, a non-profit organization that collects toys throughout the holiday season and delivers them to needy youngsters.  Those attending the event are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to be donated. Additionally, monetary donations are accepted on the organization’s website, www.ToysForTots.org.
