Barley Mac 1st Annual Oyster Festival @ Barley Mac
Oct 1 @ 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Don’t kiss summer goodbye just yet – Mike Cordero and Barley Mac are keeping classic summertime favorites – oysters and chilled white wine – on the menu into October this fall. On Saturday October 8, restaurant goers are invited to dine al fresco, and taste a sampling of the restaurant’s locally caught oysters and favorite drinks from the bar.
Barley Mac’s oyster menu features raw oysters harvested from NOVA. In addition to raw oysters, Barley Mac will serve Oyster Rockefellers, Grilled Oysters, Fried Po-Boys, Oyster Stew, Fried Buffalo Batter Oysters and Oyster Ceviche.
From the bar, guests can sip on a bit of everything from white wines to whiskey. Oyster shooters will be made to order. Stations throughout the patio will include a booth for an oyster eating contest, an oyster shucking instruction station and a table for cigar rolling.
Live music, an oyster buffet and open bar will be set up on the patio between noon and 4 p.m.
Guests (21+) will be given a stem less Barley Mac wine glass to sip from and bring home.  Shirts for sale.
The Oyster & Wine Festival is open to all age groups (21+ will be given wristbands). Tickets will be sold online prior to the event for $49 a person, or $59 a person at the door. The event will be held weather permitting.

Diana Henry Signs Book ‘SIMPLE: Effortless Food, Big Flavor’ @ La Cuisine
Oct 1 @ 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

James Beard Award-winning British author of A Bird in the Hand and Sunday Telegraph food columnist Diana Henry returns to La Cuisine in Alexandria, VA to promote her new book, SIMPLE: Effortless Food, Big Flavor – a gorgeous collection of 150 no fuss, flavor-packed recipes with influences from around the globe.

“The dishes in Simple are the kind I cook every day. They’re interesting – from all over the globe – and have lots of flavour, but they’re not taxing. There are recipes for Wednesday night suppers for the family and Sunday lunches – the lazy sort! – for friends. What we’re really short of when it comes to every day cooking is ideas – and that’s what I’ve given in Simple. Lots of them.”
