TIKI BAR: TROPICAL COCKTAILS, ISLAND-INSPIRED FARE + “TIKI THURSDAYS” HAPPY HOUR
Jack Rose is excited to announce the early opening of its rooftop Tiki Bar for the season, starting on Thursday, April 21. The discreetly-located bar, found just off the main rooftop terrace, doesn’t usually open until mid-summer but has been so popular in past years and will now be open Thursdays through Saturdays with refreshing tropical cocktails and beersisland-inspired fare and a special weekly “Tiki Thursdays” Happy Hour.
Transporting guests to the tropics, Jack Rose’s craft bartenders are combining the boozy flavors of coconut, pineapple and guava, with quality rums and spirits in a special menu of exotic Tiki cocktails, such as the Coco Face with Hamilton Demerara Rum, Ancho Reyes, Almond-Coco Cream, Cinnamon-Chili Honey Syrup and Pineapple; the rye-based Ryghty Tyghty with Dickel Rye, Tropical Tea-Infused Dry Vermouth, Housemade Orgeat, Lime and Tiki Bitters, and the Tidal Wave with Tanqueray Gin, Blue Curacao, Guava Nectar and Lime.
Beer Director Nahem Simon has also curated a special Tiki beer list featuring fruit-infused and tart brews (all $6) like the Avery Liliko’i Kepolo, a Witbier brewed with passion fruit; the Evil Twin Sour Bikini wild ale, Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin, an American IPA brewed with pineapple juice; the New Belgium Heavy Melon Watermelon Lime Ale, and Cervezeria Costa Rica Imperial, a thirst-quenching pale lager.
Island-inspired fare ranging from Spicy Sweet Pork Belly with charred pineapple slaw ($10) to ginger rum-glazed Pit Roasted Chicken Wings ($13) will come off the terrace’s wood-fired grill.
Also returning on April 21 is Tiki Thursdays, a special Tiki Bar happy hour every Thursday from 5-9 p.m. where all cocktails and food is half-price.
The Tiki Bar at Jack Rose will be open Thursdays from 5 p.m. to close and Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to last call.

William Shatner At The Future is Here Festival @ Harman Theatre

On Friday, April 22, Captain James T. Kirk himself, the international TV and movie star William “you can call me Bill” Shatner will be taking the stage at the Shakespeare Theatre’s Sidney Harman Hall in Washington D.C.
Shatner will talk for over an hour about Star Trek, his life and work on the 50th anniversary of the legendary TV series. PLUS, ticket holders will hear an in-depth interview with Chris Carter, the creator of The X-Files, who will tell stories about the series and its triumphant return this season AND meet the stars of SyFy’s smash hit 12 Monkeys.

9th Annual National Harbor Food & Wine Festival @ National Harbor MD

A great summer tradition will return to the National Harbor Waterfront on the Potomac with the much anticipated 9th Annual National Harbor Wine & Food Festival on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24  from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm each day.

The event is in a beautiful outdoor setting on the banks of the Potomac River and surrounded by the National Harbor hotels, restaurants and shops, and continues to be a destination event.  More than just a tasting, the festival brings together award winning celebrity chefs, artisanal craftsmen, culinary pioneers, live music, as well as wine and spirits from around the world.

This year’s festival will include over 150 International wines, spirits and beers featured along with local and regional favorites in and all-you-care-to-taste affair.  Guests will be able to sample all of the varieties as well as purchase them by the glass and the bottle, on-site at special event only low prices. Whisky Hour w/ Catoctin Creek @ Black's Bar & Kitchen

Black’s Bar and Kitchen and Republic Restaurant will partner up to host a “Whisky Hour” with Catoctin Creek Distilling Company on April 26thfrom 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Hosted at Black’s Bar & Kitchen, there will be a selection of whisky cocktails, tastings from Catoctin’s portfolio, local oysters and whisky and food pairings from Chef Dane Sewlall of Black’s Bar & Kitchen and Chef Danny Wells of Republic. Catoctin Creek’s owners, Becky and Scott Harris, will also be on hand to discuss their extensive portfolio of spirits. Some highlights include:
  • Bartenders from Black’s and Republic will serve two signature cocktails showcasing Roundstone Rye, which was bottled from a cask made exclusively for the Black Restaurant Group by Catoctin Creek;
  • A white whisky punch made with Mosby’s Spirit White Whisky along with pours and tastes of selections from Catoctin’s portfolio;

On April 22nd, BYT & Smithsonian American Museum of Art are teaming up again, this time around to bring you Wonder at Night, a very special after hours experience at the Renwick Gallery’s inaugural blockbuster exhibition.

The event features a Dan Deacon DJ set, Wham City Comedy, Motherknuckle, DJ Jahsonic, Live music by Lofts, cocktails by Maketto, Left Door, Kapnos, Zentan and The Riggsby, small bites by Dirty South Deli, The Cookie Jar, Black Pearl Tarts & 100 Montaditos and little (and big) surprises around every corner.

This will be the only after hours held in the space and we could not be more excited to kick off BYT’s 10 Year Anniversary series of events with it.

The Child & Family Network Centers (CFNC) will host its annual Spring Benefit, Carnival: An Evening in Venice on Friday, April 29th, 2016 from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. at National Harbor’s East Pier located at 165 Waterfront St, National Harbor, Maryland 20745.

Each year, gracious individuals and sponsors gather to improve the odds for preschool-aged children in the City of Alexandria who may be at serious risk for school failure.

The springtime beer-tasting event will include a line-up of 35 regional breweries.
