Tango With the Stars @ One Metro Center Atrium
Apr 10 @ 10:00 PM – Apr 11 @ 3:00 AM

The seductive glamour of the tango sets the theme for a stylish evening on Thursday, April 10 to support Chamber Dance Project’s upcoming debut at The Kennedy Center and its new home base of Washington, D.C.

The event’s centerpiece is a tango competition pairing Washington notables with professional tango dancers, with winners selected by a panel of judges as well as by guests and online voters. The dancers will generate funds for Chamber Dance Project and charities of their choice. A list of participating celebrities will soon be announced.

Gold/Platinum Patrons and Benefactors are welcomed at 6pm for a dramatic rooftop champagne reception with the dancers and judges. Other guests join at 6:30 in the dramatic seventh floor atrium for cocktails, a silent auction, dinner and two rounds of the tango competition.  After the winners are announced the evening continues with music and dancing for everyone.

A smartphone-based silent auction also a highlight of the gala, spotlighting a wide range of items and experiences—from classes to performances to dining and travel—with bids placed at both the event and in advance online.

Tango with the Stars supports Chamber Dance Project’s public debut as a Washington-based company in performances at the Kennedy Center June 26 to 28. Under the artistic leadership of award-winning choreographer Diane Coburn Bruning, the company has developed a reputation for vibrant, intimate, and innovative contemporary ballets—all performed to live musical accompaniment— that draw their impact from the collaboration of choreographers, dancers, composers, musicians, and designers.  Formerly headquartered in New York City, the company relocated to Washington in 2013.

The Washington Humane Society (WHS) will host the Fashion for Paws 8th Annual Runway Show (F4P) and fundraiser onSaturday, April 12, 2014, at the beautiful Omni Shoreham Hotel, located at 2500 Calvert Street NW. Chaired by Dr. Ashley Gallagher and featuring Co-Hosts, WJLA’s Scott Thuman and Dr. Katy Nelson, F4P kicks off at 8:00 p.m. with festivities until 12:00 a.m.

F4P is one of the DC area’s most popular runway benefits of the season! Designed by Design Foundry and sponsored by Audi, this year’s event will welcome more than 1,000 guests to celebrate the life-saving programs of WHS, while getting an exclusive look at the latest trends in fashion. Fundraising Models will be dressed by the luxury retailers of Tysons Galleria, with stunning hair and makeup provided by Toka Salon & Day Spa. Our four-footed models will be outfitted by Wagtime with signature doggie couture to accent the designs worn by the two-legged runway models.

Tickets and Tables are ON SALE NOW at www.fashionforpaws.org.

Participating models are wrapping up a friendly, ten-week fundraising competition, in hopes of raising a minimum of $5,000 to secure their spot on the runway. With less than three weeks to go, they are in the final stages of helping us reach our fundraising goal of $620,000, benefiting more than 43,000 animals in Washington DC every year.

General Admission tickets are $100, and provide guests with a special lounge area with private bars to view the runway show. A few remaining $200 VIP tickets give guests a seat for the runway show, along with a VIP gift bag and early access to the event at 7:00pm. This year there are more than 60 VIP seated tables available for $3,000 to $6,000, accommodating six or eight people each. These guests will enjoy a gourmet, three-course meal just steps away from the main show.  All VVIP tables, accommodating ten guests each for $10,000, are the best seats in the house and right next to the runway. Limited quantities remain.

This year’s show features a new runway design, generously provided by Design Foundry. Additional sponsors include Audi, Atmosphere, Maryland Sound, and Quince Imaging, who make this event even more of a success by kindly donating the majority of their services for set design, production, lighting, sound, staging, and more.

For more information, a full list of 2014 models, committee members, sponsors, and to purchase your tickets or tables, please visit: www.fashionforpaws.org. 100% of event proceeds support the critical programs and services of the Washington Humane Society.

About the Lupus Foundation of America:

Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood autoimmune disease that ravages different parts of the body.  It is difficult to diagnose, hard to live with and a challenge to treat.  Lupus is a cruel mystery because it is hidden from view and undefined, has a range of symptoms, strikes without warning, and has no known cause and no known cure.  Its health effects can range from a skin rash to a heart attack.  Lupus is debilitating and destructive and can be fatal, yet research on lupus remains underfunded relative to diseases of similar scope and devastation.

The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is the only national force devoted to solving the mystery of lupus, one of the world’s cruelest, most unpredictable and devastating diseases, while giving caring support to those who suffer from its brutal impact. Through a comprehensive program of research, education, and advocacy, the Foundation leads the fight to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus.

Why:
The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship’s (NFTE) mission is to provide programs that inspire young people from low-income communities to stay in school, to recognize business opportunities and to plan for successful futures.

Since our founding in 1987, NFTE has touched the lives of 500,000 young people globally and we currently have programs running across the U.S. and in twelve countries around the world, including China, Mexico and Israel.  In 2014, we join to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the founding of our Washington, DC chapter, which has served over 25,000 young people in the DC region. Currently serving 23 schools, the NFTE DC Region serves close to 1,100 young people annually.

Each year, NFTE celebrates our global impact by honoring top young NFTE entrepreneurs from all the communities we work in worldwide.  These young people have a chance to present their businesses to the guests and we feature a number of them during the evening.  Also in attendance are the amazing teachers on whom NFTE relies to bring our award winning program into resource-challenged schools globally, and this year an inspiring group of alumni from the NFTE Greater Washington region will be on hand to promote their own local businesses.   It is truly an evening that celebrates the power of entrepreneurship education in the most tangible way.
