Oct 1 @ 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Enjoy a “familiennachmittag” or family afternoon like they do in Munich, Germany. Capitol City invites beer-drinkers and festivalgoers alike to dress in traditional German garb and enjoy the tastes of authentic Bavarian brews, bratwurst and brezlen – the German-style pretzel. More than 65 local breweries will set up taps and share ale and lager samples with the thousands of anticipated guests from the DMV region.  Notable breweries include Mad Fox, James River, Fair Winds, Port City, Starr Hill, Heritage, Hardywood, Pleasure House, Adventure, O’Connor, Brothers, Jailbreak, Gordon Biersch, Flying Dog, DuClaw, Union, Blue Mountain, Adroit Theory, New District and Chaos Mountain. For a full list of participating breweries, please visithttp://www.capcitybrew.com/oktoberfest16.php .
Capitol City will offer samples of its three feature fall beers, including the newly named Cursed Gourd, theSmoketoberfest and the classic Oktoberfest Lager. In addition to sampling from more than 100 beer taps, festivalgoers can enjoy Alpine music while they taste authentic German cuisine and other American fare from various local eateries.
The $30 admission ticket for beer drinkers includes an official Oktoberfest wristband, a Capitol City branded tasting glass, and 10 drink tickets. Additional drink tickets are available for purchase for $1 each with a five-ticket minimum. Admission is free for non-drinkers. Beer-drinkers must be 21+ to purchase a ticket.
Capitol City’s Oktoberfest Beer Selections:
Cursed Gourd – brewed with chocolate, honey, and crystal malts and flaked oats for a smooth finish. Brown sugar, cinnamon, clover, ginger, nutmeg and allspice are all in the boil in addition to 150 lbs. of “gourd-y” goodness.
Cursed Gourd – A hearty spin on a traditional Marzen, this copper beer is packed with six kinds of malt and noble hops. Our blend of beechwood-smoked barley and oak-smoked wheat gives a pleasant smoky character that is ideal with brats, bacon, or any grilled meats. Recommended in The Washingtonian as one of “Five Oktoberfest Beers to Try Near Washington!”
Oktoberfest Lager – An easy- drinking fall lager, brewed with Munich, Abbey, and Carahell malt, then moderately hopped with noble German hops.  Full and complex malt profile, lovely copper hue; perfect for the festival season!

“The dishes in Simple are the kind I cook every day. They’re interesting – from all over the globe – and have lots of flavour, but they’re not taxing. There are recipes for Wednesday night suppers for the family and Sunday lunches – the lazy sort! – for friends. What we’re really short of when it comes to every day cooking is ideas – and that’s what I’ve given in Simple. Lots of them.”
