ICE, Ice Baby

by Baille Gelwicks

What do you get when you bring 40 ice sculpture artists, 5,000 ice blocks and a 15,000 sq. foot structure to the Gaylord Hotel? You get the 2010 edition of ICE!

Featuring Dr. Seuss’sHow the Grinch Stole Christmas” by artisans of Harbin, China (a city known for its annual Harbin International Snow and Ice Festival), in just over 30 days, Grinch’s frozen lair, Christmas Eve in Who-ville, and the Roast-Beast Feast were recreated – exclusively for the Gaylord Hotel.

Guests will enjoy walking through, around and on top of nearly 2 million pounds of ice, kept frozen at a chilling nine degrees Fahrenheit. (Thankfully, you’ll get a bright blue parka before entering the icy abyss.)  And warm up afterward with a little hot cocoa and Christmas shopping at the exhibits gift shop.

ICE is open daily at National Harbor through January 9, 2011.
