First of It’s Kind Lab School Celebrates 26 Years

The Lab School of Washington, an academic experience for students with learning disabilities, celebrated its 26th annual Gala at the National Building Museum Wednesday night. The Gala evening recognized outstanding individuals with disabilities who have attained success in their chosen careers. At left, Leslie Griffin and Julie Herwic,  colleagues of Bill Mattox, one of the night’s honorees.

This school, a first of its kind in the nation, uses  multi-sensory art-infused curriculum to help students with learning disabilities to prosper.

The Gala evening featured a keynote speech by Senator Mark Warner as well as inspirations by 2010 awardees Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch (Army Veteran and Public Speaker) and John Muir Laws (Naturalist, Artist, Illustrator, and Educator).
