Kate Michael, @theauthentikate, is a Writer/Model/On-Camera Host and Event Emcee. Notable as the Founder and current Editor-At-Large of K Street Magazine, Kate started the site while serving as Miss District of Columbia 2006 and competing in Miss America (2007).
Currently, Kate works as a professional spokesperson and model, walking the runway for such industry icons as Valentino, Derek Lam, Naeem Kahn and Oscar de la Renta. Her media portfolio includes a spread in Elle magazine and features on Inside Edition and BBC World News’ “The Real Cities” series. You’ll catch her interviewing guests on DC’s NewChannel8′s Let’s Talk Live and showcasing products on BestBuy.com, as well as work appearing on NBC, Fox, Comcast and local print publications.
Based out of suburban Maryland, the group hoped to connect with the DC philanthropic community, said Georgetown Business Association vice-president and CSAAC Board member Rokas Beresniovas. Because raising awareness was more important than fundraising, “We wanted to provide value,” he said of the event-planning process.
He and fellow Host Committee members—individuals representing DC’s diverse political and business scene—did just that. Following a cocktail reception (anchored by a silent auction featuring artwork by CSAAC residents), guests heard a live performance from classical pianist Edvinas Minkstimas (a soon-to-be DCist, says the Lithuanian-born musician pictured at top left); and watched fashion collections from DC artist Don Patron, pictured top right, (inspired by the movie The Red Balloon, according to CSAAC’s Ayda Sanver) and designer Maggie Burgess of CAS Boutique.
