This year DC-based, national non-profit the Colorectal Cancer Alliance’s Blue Hope Bash goes nationwide welcoming an entire nation for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the community to unite and confront present-day challenges. The free virtual event will be a live national broadcast that will help raise funds to reverse the pandemic’s tremendous effect on the colorectal cancer community in addition to addressing the health disparities with the disease in Black communities. The event will feature special guest appearances, celebrity entertainment, and inspiring patient stories. The Alliance has a goal to raise $2 million from the broadcast to support its three core programmatic pillars: Screen, Care, and Cure.

Why is it important to have agency in how we are portrayed? Together with our co-hosts from the Freer and Sackler, Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, we will explore this key question about representation in relationship to a 1937 photograph of actress Anna May Wong and an early 21st century photo-performance by Pushpamala N. As part of a series of events commemorating AAPI Heritage Month at Hook Hall a group of noted DC chefs will prepare a three-course dinner and offer a conversation between courses. The event, to be held at the Park View bar and event space and benefitting “Chefs Stopping AAPI Hate” will take place May 20 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
