Get ready for a spectacular party with a French accent. The annual Francophonie Cultural Festival spotlights the music, art, literature, film, cuisine, and customs of French-speaking countries and regions from across the globe. Its closing celebration, La Grande Fete, is always magnifique, and this year’s bash is no exception.
Beginning at 7 p.m., launch into a world tour of francophone cultures. Sample food and drink from more than 30 embassies as you explore each nation’s unique attractions and traditions.
Guinean singer/songwriter Natu Camara performs live with an energy that keeps you on your feet. Natu’s dynamic and mesmerizing voice is a fusion of soul, Afro-Rock, folk and pop. Combined with unique and joyful stage presence, she is sure to make for a memorable addition to this year’s La Grande Fete. Les the DJ will spin music from Africa, the Caribbean, Europe and plenty of destinations in between. For over 35 years, GRAMMY Award-winner Caetano Veloso has been a major musical, social, and cultural force in Brazil. The New York Times calls him “one of the greatest songwriters of the century.” Veloso’s latest project is a collaboration with his sons: Moreno, Zeca, and Tom. This legendary lineage performs an intimate, acoustic concert full of their favorite songs like “Um Canto de Afoxé Para o Bloco do Ilê,” and your favorite songs of Veloso’s like “Cucurrucucu Paloma,” “Sozinho,” and more. Veloso first became known for his participation in the Brazilian musical movement Tropicalismo, which encompassed theatre, poetry, and music in the 1960s, paving the way for pursuits in rock, pop, folk, and Bossa Nova.
Learn how the next generation of Baltimore’s artists and leaders are harnessing the power of creativity to tell their stories. As part of the day’s activities, attendees can create their own museum memes, buttons, and custom banners, learn how to screen print with Jubilee Arts: Youth in Business, and make a personalized zine with Baltimore Youth Arts. Special guests include the Enoch Pratt Free Library, Baltimore Ceasefire, and Open Works. Performances include screenings with Wide Angle Youth Media, musical ensembles with two Arts Every Day schools, and the Lethal Ladies of Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women step team.
The day’s festivities include Behind the Façade, a program of original monologues by Baltimore School for the Arts theater students. Performed in 1 West Mount Vernon Place, this performance brings to life the range of people, enslaved and free, who made Mount Vernon their home in the years before and after the Civil War.

In this fascinating and beautifully illustrated talk, Jonathan Drori, author and trustee of The Eden Project in Cornwall, and former BBC documentary film-maker and board member of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, uses plant science to illuminate how trees play a role in every part of our lives, from the romantic to the regrettable, and how they are capable of the most bizarre antics. The War of the Rosés returns to Roofers Union and sister wine bar Jug & Table. Guests will enjoy selections of rosés from around the world handpicked by new Wine Director Chas Jefferson. Guests are invited to try them all, either by the glass or half-priced bottle, which will all be available at half price, and all are asked to select the fourth annual crowd favorite. This year, Jefferson has selected rosés from Austria, France, Spain and Italy. Bottles representing each country will be available on all three floors, including the rooftop, and the rosé that proves the most popular will earn a dedicated spot on the wine lists at both concepts this summer. Menu items like Jug & Table’s Rosé burrata with watermelon and mint will be available a la carte to pair with a bottle for a meal with friends, or nibble throughout the evening.

Downtown DC’s newest pop up arts market launches as Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center (RRB/ITC) hosts Capital Arts Collective. The series kicks off on June 20 and continues through September every third Thursday of the month from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Locals and passersby can shop and explore a curated selection of items by the area’s most talented creatives, including everything from jewelry, paintings, candles, custom designed items, home goods, and more.
Capital Arts Collective aims to celebrate and support the local art scene. The Del Ray Business Association will host its 6th Annual Well Ray Festival on Saturday, June 22nd in the heart of Del Ray. The free, family-friendly event will take on Mt. Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray section of Alexandria, a neighborhood just outside of Washington, D.C. “where Main Street still exists,” and will be a celebration of the health and wellness lifestyle movement. This year, the City of Alexandria was recognized as one of the top healthiest in America by the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, an annual ranking that provides a revealing snapshot of how health is influenced by where we live, learn, work and play (link).
Over 75 health and lifestyle inspired vendors will provide a variety of activities to allow festival-goers the opportunity to explore, heal, taste and move in achieving a healthy life. Wellness and holistic health practitioners will offer services ranging from therapeutic treatments such as massages to acupuncture, physical therapy and nutritional counseling, health screenings, meditation, and more.
Festival attendees can bring their own mat and be prepared to move during free yoga, pilates, CrossFit, spin, barre, and dance classes on the streets led by local fitness instructors. There are also a variety of kid fit fun activities for the whole family to enjoy such as dance lessons, martial arts, parkour and HITT training. Pet lovers can bring their furry friends for pet-friendly fitness activities such as training tips and obstacle work. The festival each year draws thousands from across the region who want to explore the latest and greatest the world of health and wellness has to offer.
