Additional Information: The goal of Chris4Life’s Eat4Life is to provide guests with healthy meal options, to showcase you and your restaurant and to raise funds and awareness for C4L. Chefs will prepare dished based on colon-friendly and cancer friendly ingredients. The event will consist of stations and each chef will have the opportunity to discuss preparation of the item being served and will have the opportunity to market his or her restaurant to guests of the event all while supporting C4L and its patient programs.

DC SCORES is hosting our annual Couch to Camp Campaign happy hour next Thursday, March 21, from 5-8pm at Meridian Pint
The Couch to Camp Campaign is a a fundraising drive with the goal of raising $10,000 to support FREE summer camps for low-income youth in the District. The campaign runs through March, but the happy hour is the main event of the month and where DC SCPRES hopes to raise the most funds.
March Madness with Peace Players International @ Capitale

On March 21, PeacePlayers International will host a charitable fundraiser to coincide with the beginning of the Men’s NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament. All proceeds from the event will go directly to support PPI programming around the world. The organization is dedicated to bridging divides, developing leaders and changing perceptions by bringing together children in areas of conflict through basketball

PeacePlayers International (PPI) is a global non-profit organization that brings together children from divided areas to play basketball. PPI coaches and mentors work year round to unite, educate and inspire young people to create a more peaceful world. PeacePlayers International operates year round programs in Cyprus, Northern Ireland, the Middle East and South Africa. Through PPI’s Sports and Peace Innovation Network (PPI – SPIN), PPI has worked with organizations in Afghanistan, Yemen, Argentina, Ethiopia and Chicago, providing training and consulting services to others seeking to harness the power of sport for youth civic engagement, leadership development and conflict transformation.

PPI is excited to build on the excitement of the start of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and host a fun party that will also benefit the children in the regions were it works. The event will be held in Washington, DC, at the popular Capitale restaurant and lounge – 1301 K Street, NW. Tickets are $75 each ($90 at the door) and include open bar, appetizers from Hill Country BBQ and an entry into a bracket competition. The event will run 6-9 PM. 26th Annual Leukemia Ball @ Walter E. Washington Convention Center

March 24th – 8th Annual Scope It Out 5K Race – Held at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2013 in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C.  Registration is now open with the race kicking off at Freedom Plaza (13th & Pennsylvania) and will include a scenic tour of popular DC sites including the National Gallery, Newseum, FBI Headquarters, Ford’s Theater, U.S. Botanical Gardens, and the Capitol.  The annual event is expected to attract approximately 4,000 participants.

The Washington area public has selected the 10 finalists for the Fifth Annual DC-CAPital Stars Talent Competition. These talented DC high school students will showcase their artistic abilities at a special performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. That evening, a panel of celebrity judges (see below), along with help from the audience, will help select the grand prize winner who will receive a $10,000 DC-CAP college scholarship that will be applied toward their first year of college. In addition, all finalists will receive college scholarships. The event is part of DC-CAP’s A Night of DC-CAPital Stars Gala celebration, which will honor outstanding academic achievement and excellence in artistic abilities of college-bound students from the District of Columbia.

BACKGROUND:     In its fifth year, the DC-CAPital Stars Talent Competition showcases outstanding artistic abilities of college-bound DC public and public charter high school students. This citywide talent search began with a series of auditions in October 2012. During the month of January 2013, the top 41 auditions were posted on DC-CAP’s Web site for the public to view and choose their favorites in vocal, instrumental or dance categories.

From the more than 6,500 online tallies and input from a local panel of independent professional vocalists, dancers, musicians and educators from the metropolitan area, the top 10 finalists were selected and will perform at the Kennedy Center on March 26. Learn more atwww.dccap.org/gala

LLS Man & Woman of the Year Campaign Kick-Off @ The Huxley

The National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will kick off its 22nd annual Man & Woman of the Year campaign on Thursday, March 28 at The Huxley. The celebration marks the beginning of an exciting 10-week fundraising competition where candidates compete to earn the title of 2013 Man and Woman of the Year. The titles are awarded to the man and woman in each community for raising the most funds, and the top local fundraisers in the country also win national titles.

The candidates have set a combined goal of raising $1.2 million for lifesaving cancer research while also raising awareness for LLS’s mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. This year’s fundraising is in honor of two special patient heroes, the 2013 Boy & Girl of the Year: Reed Switzer and Madison Nardi.

The 2013 campaign co-chairs are Jennifer Keating of CDWG, 2009 Woman of the Year First Runner-Up and Hap Peden of IBM, 2009 Man of the Year. The evening’s celebration will be emceed by Laura Evans of FOX 5, and guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. The Man & Woman of the Year winners will be announced at the Grand Finale Gala on June 8, 2013 at the Ritz-Carlton with dinner, entertainment, dancing and a fabulous silent auction.

Bloomingdale’s Chevy Chase is pleased to welcome members and friends of the Junior League of Washington on Thursday, April 4, 6:30-8:30pm, for a special spring fashion presentation by stylist and editor of Project Beltway, Rachel Cothran.  Guests can enjoy makeovers from Bobbi Brown and hors d’oeuvres and sips from Ridgewells Catering as they watch members of the JLW model the top spring trends and pick up tips on how to incorporate these styles and key pieces into their own wardrobes.

Following the fashion presentation, Junior League members will have the opportunity to shop the store, and ten percent of sales from all purchases will benefit the Junior League of Washington’s efforts to improve literacy throughout the greater metropolitan area of Washington, DC.  In honor of their Centennial, JLW volunteers have committed to purchasing and distributing 100,000 new books to children as part of the RESOLUTION READ program.  Just $5 will buy two new, age-appropriate books for children in the DC area.
