The annual Oxon Run Pinknic & Kite Fly celebrates the Ward 8 community with free food, kite kits, art, music, and fun kid activities as the Festival continues beyond the Tidal Basin.

The evening will then feature a panel of distinguished industry leaders in the menswear space with panelists ranging from menswear designers, textile experts, influencers, stylists, direct-to-consumer mavericks & marketing gurus. Discussion will encompass the lifecycle of a garment, current spring trends, and socially conscious initiatives (like unisex apparel).

WHAT: City Ridge is bringing history, fashion, forgotten facts and never-before-seen photos together at its new Fashion Lecture Series hosted by fashion historian, John Tiffany.
From 7-8 PM at 30 Ridge Square NW, fashion historian John Tiffany will explore the influence of Hollywood on 1930’s fashion. From flapper fringe to tweed suits, flounces and frills, John will dive deep into how the starpower of Hollywood shaped American fashion and beyond, all while sipping on a 30’s-style handcrafted alcoholic beverage.

Living Earth Festival 2023: Native Nations Confronting Climate Change
Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
From water scarcity to floods and erosion, Native nations are addressing climate change across Indian Country. During the Living Earth Festival, join the museum for a weekend of conversations, demonstrations, and artmaking to learn how Indigenous communities are stepping forward with aggressive plans to protect their ways of life.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can hear directly from Indigenous climate and agriculture experts as they discuss how their communities have always demonstrated respect for the Earth with sustainability in mind. Presenters show how traditional knowledge and practices are being adapted to a changing climate and feed the world’s growing population at the same time. Working artists will engage visitors in communal artmaking using found materials once destined for landfills to create new and unique works of art.

As part of its ongoing community programming, Maryland Lyric Opera (MDLO) will offer a free performance Friday, May 5 at the Washington National Cathedral as part of the All Hallows Guild Flower Mart to benefit the gardens and grounds of the Cathedral. Soprano Melissa Mino, mezzo-soprano Amanda Fink, tenor Kevin KJ Webb and baritone Javier Arrey and pianist Husan Park will perform selections from La Bohème, Carmen, Don Giovanni, Lakmé, La Traviata, and Rigoletto.
The Washington National Cathedral is located at 3101 Wisconsin Avenue, NW and is accessible by any No. 30 Metrobus; for those traveling by car, limited parking ($10 fee) will be available at the Cathedral’s underground parking garage.
For those who did not receive an invitation to the Coronation of King Charles, III and Her Majesty The Queen Consort of the United Kingdom, slated for May 6 at Westminster Abbey, Fairmont Washington, D.C., Georgetown is holding a Coronation Garden Party. The event takes place on Saturday, May 6, honoring the Coronation. Beginning at 9:30am, in the hotel’s courtyard, guests will enjoy a ceremonial celebration featuring authentic Scottish bagpiper Duncan Moore, a champagne sabering and slices of a Royal Coronation Cake, fit for a King and a Queen Consort.
Executive Pastry Chef Claus Olsen will create an impressive, towering cake to honor the coronation, and will share slices with guests as they toast His Majesty and The Queen consort along with a taste of sabered champagne.
All guests donning festive hats or fascinators will be eligible to win prizes for most authentic, fabulous and over-the-top – prizes awarded at 11:30 am. The Trust for the National Mall is pleased to invite you to attend a FREE commemorative concert on the 79th Anniversary of the D-Day operation at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial! Join in on June 6 from 6 – 7 PM to enjoy a musical performance by an ensemble from the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” to commemorate this decisive World War II battle which was overseen by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, then the Supreme Allied Commander, Allied Expeditionary Forces.
This event is open and free to the public, and we encourage you to bring guests of all ages! We hope you will join us for this special event commemorating the largest amphibious invasion at the time and to commemorate Eisenhower’s leadership.
