Real Art on a Shoestring @ SR/A La Collection
Apr 26 @ 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM

20 local artists in a variety of disciplines will be exhibiting over 100 pieces all priced under $750 at “Real Art on a Shoestring” at SR/A La Collection in downtown Bethesda. This notable event aims to show the average consumer that owning original art is not out of their budget.

The opening reception will occur on April 26 from 6:00 – 8:30pm. “Real Art on a Shoestring” will be on display through summer 2018.

SR/A La Collection is the retail gallery arm of SR/A Interior Design, a boutique commercial interior design firm. SR/A showcases a revolving collection of artists and antiques in the 3500 SF gallery space that fronts their office-space in downtown Bethesda. Unlike typical art galleries, SR/A believes art shows best as it would in a person’s home – surrounded by furniture, accessories and antique treasures. As original art has a reputation for being too expensive, for this show SR/A has partnered with 20 local artists to bring the public affordable, yet exquisite pieces – all for $750 or below.

This event plays on the well-known phrase, “on a shoestring,” to prove that creative pieces can be found on a smaller budget. The list of participating artists includes local favorites such as Linda Cafritz, Mark Schwenk, Fabiano Amin, Stefanie Stark, and more!

“I think this show is a great way for people to buy affordable, real works of art from local artists. There are so many different styles, mediums, and artists participating in this show; it’s a great opportunity to see, admire, and add art to your life” – Fabiano Amin, Participating Local Artist

You can catch these remarkable artists and their creations, as well as complimentary food and drinks, on April 26th, 2018 at SR/A La Collection (7020 Wisconsin Ave.)

5th Annual White Party @ Decades
Jun 2 @ 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Washington Redskins teammates — cornerback Josh Norman and tight end Vernon Davis — announce that they will co-host the fifth annual White Party benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) and Norman’s Starz24 Foundation.

The highly anticipated summer soiree, originated by former Redskins player Pierre Garçon and with a head-to-toe all-white dress code, is taking place on Saturday, June 2 at Decades (1219 Connecticut Avenue NW). The sleekly-decorated rooftop boasts palm trees, tropical plants and greenery-covered privacy walls across the 2,500-square foot space, making for the perfect backdrop for the evening.

Local pro athletes, NFL executives, community leaders and Washington VIPs will rub elbows for a good cause, helping to raise money for BGCGW and Starz24 that will foster a new generation of innovative and talented future leaders nationwide.

“As a native Washingtonian, I have always wanted the best for my city, so giving back in this way is personally important for me,” says Davis. “It feels amazing knowing that our event will help make dreams come true for some of Washington’s best and brightest kids.”

“My Starz24 Foundation is all about developing future skills in our young people and the White Party will help us widen that reach,” adds Norman. “When Vernon and I talked about teaming up to make this event a reality, I knew we could have a real impact by working together.”

The White Party will feature a premium open bar, passed hors d’oeuvres donated by Barcode and a live auction.

“As a longtime Washingtonian and diehard Redskins fan, I was excited about the opportunity to partner with my team for a good cause and serve as the title sponsor for this year’s event,” says Antonis Karagounis, owner of Decades and Barcode. “We’re always here to help our community, and the work these two foundations do in this region is remarkable. We can’t wait to host Vernon, Josh and their teammates in the name of philanthropy.”
Past high-profile White Party attendees include Washington Wizards star John Wall, Former D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, hip-hop legends Biz Markie and DJ Kool and dozens of fellow Redskins players, including Ryan Kerrigan, Trent Williams, Morgan Moses and Colt McCoy as well as former Redskins Joe Theismann, Kirk Cousins, Doug Williams, Robert Griffin III, Niles Paul, Chris Baker, Kai Forbath and Brian Orakpo among others.

With the help of top sponsors, Norman and Davis look forward to a night of fun and fundraising for BGCGW and Starz24 Foundation and the important work they do. Tickets are available for $100-$150 and can be purchased at https://www.eventnation.co/event/VernonDavisJoshNormanWhiteParty.

Visitors have the rare chance to flip through and purchase a piece of history at the 43rd annual Washington Antiquarian Book Fair: September 28 & 29, 2018 at Holiday Inn Rosslyn.

WABF is the D.C. region’s only curated festival of rare and collectible books, manuscripts, autographs, maps, drawings and other fine ephemera.

Among this year’s highlights:
1st edition of Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897): bound in publisher’s original cloth
Limitededition copy of Betty Crocker’s Picture Cook Book: signed by the author
1st edition of Thunderball (1961): Ian Fleming’s first novel featuring notorious James
Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld
 1st printing of Thomas Pynchon’s 1973 novel, Gravity’s Rainbow
You needn’t be a veteran collector – or a gazillionaire – to enjoy WABF. More than 60 exhibitors
will offer items for all budgets and interests.

WABF director Beth Campbell says the personal nature of WABF is something worth
celebrating, especially “with the advent of doing business online.” She calls WABF “an active
museum, a forum to access diverse knowledge gathered in one place.”

WABF is “about connectedness and discovery,” Campbell says. “The exhibitors are connected
to their collections, each other and the fairgoers. The fairgoers are connected to a particular
genre, author or time. We all discover more when we connect and converse with one another.”

Special features at the 43rd annual WABF include personalized impromptu haikus from
“wordsmith minimalists” Haiku Gals, and the chance to make bookmarks and bind pamphlets
with renowned bookbinder and conservator Jill Deiss of Cat Tail Run Hand Bookbinding.
