Turn Up the Heat Gala @ Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center
Feb 19 @ 11:00 PM – Feb 20 @ 3:00 AM

Our signature gala, Turn Up the Heat: A Celebration of Women Chefs, celebrates the talents of renowned women chefs and supports the work of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. Attendees enjoy a live auction and a tasting from the top women in the industry featuring nearly 50 women chefs, restaurant owners and mixologists. The gala celebrates these talented women and supports the work of the Alliance. Attendees include cancer survivors, supporters of the Alliance, corporations and leaders in business, health care and oncology.

Turn Up the Heat is an important fundraiser for the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance and allows us to continue our vital work on behalf of ovarian cancer survivors. Ovarian cancer is one of the most common cancers for women, and is the deadliest gynecologic cancer. This gala allows the Alliance to provide support to women who are diagnosed, educate the public about ovarian cancer and speak up for our community on Capitol Hill and throughout the country.

WHO: SHANNON MILLER

Olympic Gymnast and Ovarian Cancer Survivor

Shannon Miller is the most-decorated American Olympic gymnast and a survivor of ovarian cancer. As our special guest, she will speak about how her experience as an Olympian helped her conquer the challenges of this disease.

40+ WOMEN CHEFS, RESTAURANTEURS & MIXOLOGISTS

Our participating chefs come from every corner of the DMV. From food trucks to fine dining, they represent the wealth of women working in our region’s restaurant industry. Several chefs are themselves ovarian cancer survivors or have personal connections to this cause. Visit our gala website or contact the Alliance for the most recent list of participating chefs.

Tango With the Stars @ One Metro Center Atrium
Apr 10 @ 10:00 PM – Apr 11 @ 3:00 AM

The seductive glamour of the tango sets the theme for a stylish evening on Thursday, April 10 to support Chamber Dance Project’s upcoming debut at The Kennedy Center and its new home base of Washington, D.C.

The event’s centerpiece is a tango competition pairing Washington notables with professional tango dancers, with winners selected by a panel of judges as well as by guests and online voters. The dancers will generate funds for Chamber Dance Project and charities of their choice. A list of participating celebrities will soon be announced.

Gold/Platinum Patrons and Benefactors are welcomed at 6pm for a dramatic rooftop champagne reception with the dancers and judges. Other guests join at 6:30 in the dramatic seventh floor atrium for cocktails, a silent auction, dinner and two rounds of the tango competition.  After the winners are announced the evening continues with music and dancing for everyone.

A smartphone-based silent auction also a highlight of the gala, spotlighting a wide range of items and experiences—from classes to performances to dining and travel—with bids placed at both the event and in advance online.

Tango with the Stars supports Chamber Dance Project’s public debut as a Washington-based company in performances at the Kennedy Center June 26 to 28. Under the artistic leadership of award-winning choreographer Diane Coburn Bruning, the company has developed a reputation for vibrant, intimate, and innovative contemporary ballets—all performed to live musical accompaniment— that draw their impact from the collaboration of choreographers, dancers, composers, musicians, and designers.  Formerly headquartered in New York City, the company relocated to Washington in 2013.
