Craft Brewers Conference Day 3 @ Jack Rose Dining Saloon

More than 6,000 craft beer enthusiasts and industry professionals will soon descend on Washington, DC in search of the best beer around, and Jack Rose Dining Saloon is pulling out all the stops to showcase its carefully curated beer selection. The Craft Brewers Conference (CBC) has chosen to host its annual show in the increasingly-popular small brew destination of DC from March 26-29 and Jack Rose is hosting a week of exciting, beer-focused events to celebrate.

Equipped with 20 brand-new 304 surgical-grade stainless steel draft lines which run from rooftop terrace to saloon bar, Jack Rose and beer director Nahem Simon will be pouring some of the best beer in the city that week. From a ‘Game of Thrones’-inspired “Feast of the Iron Throne” beer dinnerfeaturing Ommegang’s new brew collaboration with HBO, to a K Pop-themed “Gnomegangnam Style” beer party, and even an “Epic” 20-tap takeover from Utah’s Epic Brewing Co., it’s sure to be an “epic” four days at Jack Rose during the CBC.

Thursday March 28th – DC Craft Beer Tour

DC beer lovers are invited to join the owners of some of the country’s top breweries for a Craft Beer Tour of 5-6 of DC’s finest beer establishments – one of the premiere stops being Jack Rose. From 6-11:30pm in Jack Rose’s Balcony Room, guests can chat with the owners of 21st AmendmentElysian,Uinta and more and taste rare specialty beers. LLS Man & Woman of the Year Campaign Kick-Off @ The Huxley

The National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will kick off its 22nd annual Man & Woman of the Year campaign on Thursday, March 28 at The Huxley. The celebration marks the beginning of an exciting 10-week fundraising competition where candidates compete to earn the title of 2013 Man and Woman of the Year. The titles are awarded to the man and woman in each community for raising the most funds, and the top local fundraisers in the country also win national titles.

The candidates have set a combined goal of raising $1.2 million for lifesaving cancer research while also raising awareness for LLS’s mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. This year’s fundraising is in honor of two special patient heroes, the 2013 Boy & Girl of the Year: Reed Switzer and Madison Nardi.

The 2013 campaign co-chairs are Jennifer Keating of CDWG, 2009 Woman of the Year First Runner-Up and Hap Peden of IBM, 2009 Man of the Year. The evening’s celebration will be emceed by Laura Evans of FOX 5, and guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. The Man & Woman of the Year winners will be announced at the Grand Finale Gala on June 8, 2013 at the Ritz-Carlton with dinner, entertainment, dancing and a fabulous silent auction.

This panel discussion, moderated by Alona Wartofsky, a former writer and editor for City Paper and The Washington Post, will explore the music and gang cultures of pre-gentrification D.C. Panelists include Trouble Funk’s “Big” Tony Fisher, Rare Essence’s Andre “Whiteboy” Johnson, longtime Washington music writer Mark Jenkins, former D.C. Police detective Donald “Goose” Gossage, and Gangster George, a former member of the Gangster Chronicles crew.

Following the fashion presentation, Junior League members will have the opportunity to shop the store, and ten percent of sales from all purchases will benefit the Junior League of Washington’s efforts to improve literacy throughout the greater metropolitan area of Washington, DC.  In honor of their Centennial, JLW volunteers have committed to purchasing and distributing 100,000 new books to children as part of the RESOLUTION READ program.  Just $5 will buy two new, age-appropriate books for children in the DC area.
