Curative Collective Conversations
Join the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) for a new series of in-depth interviews with the Curative Collective, a group of partners working at the intersection of food, art and social change. From advocacy and social justice work to healing and restorative self-care, this diverse collective serves communities throughout the Baltimore–Washington Metropolitan Area. The Curative Collective is working on NMWA’s upcoming exhibition, RECLAMATION: Recipes, Remedies, and Rituals to ensure that the exhibition incorporates local communities.

The Tea: VeVe Marley
In this new online series, women musicians perform original work on the first Friday of the month. Conducted over a cup of tea, each session includes a short interview exploring the artist’s creative process. Join us and local singer and songwriter VeVe Marley.
VeVe Marley is a D.C.-based singer/songwriter and guitarist whose music blends elements of folk, Afrobeat, R&B and hip-hop to create dreamy, soulful vibes while speaking on issues of identity, spirituality, racism and the Black experience. Marley has performed and recorded since 2013. Her most recent project, with her band VeVe and Tha Rebels, is entitled The EP.

Holiday Drive-In Movie

Tysons Corner Center is bringing back it’s Drive-In Movie Nights. The fun will kick-off at 5:00 PM (movie starts at 7:30 PM) and will last until the movie has concluded with food available from participating eateries as well as some live entertainment, trivia, and music prior to the show. Tickets for Elf will be released the week of November 23rd.
Reservation required, with a donation of $10 or more to FOOD FOR OTHERS, a local nonprofit providing food to neighbors in need. Reservation link.
NPR’s A Jazz Piano Christmas

The Kennedy Center and NPR present this annual holiday tradition highlighting jazz pianists performing their favorite seasonal music. This perennially sold-out event will be recorded for future broadcast on NPR and streaming online.

BMA x NMWA: America
Join us for BMA x NMWA, a livestreamed monthly talk show presented by The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) and the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA). In this virtual program, educators from both museums consider America through the lens of works by Native American visual artists. We will discuss art by Jaune Quick-to-See Smith and welcome special guest Dare Turner, curator of the BMA’s Stripes and Stars: Reclaiming Lakota Independence.

Virtual Holiday Décor Tour

Immerse yourself in Hillwood’s holiday spirit from home and join Ami Wilber, floral and event décor designer, on a virtual tour the holiday display, inspired by the publication A Garden for All Seasons: Marjorie Merriweather Post’s Hillwood.
Floral Design How-To: Holiday Blooms
Celebrate the holiday season with a floral arrangement full of luxuriously rich colors and festive blooms.
This program will cover principles of floral design, a step-by-step guide to create your own arrangement, and ample time to ask questions. It is limited to 60 participants. Supplies are not included, but a materials list will be shared with all registered users prior to the program, should participants wish to follow along at home.
OPTIONAL MATERIALS FEE
For an additional fee of $60, participants will receive all necessary materials, including:
- White spray roses (5 stems)
- Burgundy carnations (5-7 stems)
- White tulips (5-7 stems)
- Red Roses (5 stems)
- An assortment of winter greens (boxwood, incense cedar, magnolia leaves, Carolina sapphire, noble fir tips, and seeded eucalyptus)
- A low compote bowl
- Chicken wire (to secure stems)
Exact supplies may vary based on availability due to coronavirus-related supply chain issues. Participants will also need water, and pruning shears strong enough to cut through greens such as fir tips. Participants may also like floral shears or scissors.
Interested participants must pre-order their materials by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, and collect them from Hillwood the day of the program. Contact-free pickup is available on Wednesday, December 9, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and on Friday, December 11, 10 a.m.-noon.
CONNECTING WITH ZOOM
This virtual workshop is presented live via Zoom. The online “waiting room” opens at 12:30 p.m. and the workshop begins at 1:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to join with video; questions can be submitted via the chat feature. Please note that this workshop will be recorded.
