Calico Winter Market @ Calico
Dec 8 @ 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
This December, Calico will welcome the holiday season with a festive Winter Market, complete with a pop-up tree lot, cookie decorating, gift wrapping, ornament painting, local craft shop, hot cocktails, wintry eats and more festive seasonal fun. The market will take place on Sunday, December 8 from 1 to 5 pm and is free to attend and open to the public.
The urban backyard in Blagden Alley will be a one-stop-shop for all-things-holiday, where guests can pick out their own Christmas trees, decorate them, buy holiday gifts, have them wrapped, and nibble homemade sweets and libations in a festively decorated winter wonderland.
Attendees can peruse locally made gifts from local vendors and artists, while a gift wrapping station will be decked out with decorative paper and bows, so guests can wrap their own gifts or have them professionally wrapped.
There’s no need to head to the suburban tree lot this year. Market-goers can pick their very own Christmas trees from Calico’s pop-up tree lot. And the trees won’t leave sans decoration: attendees are encouraged to get crafty at a stocked ornament painting station, featuring take-home adornments.
Guests can decorate their own freshly-baked cookies at a cookie decorating bar complete with sprinkles and other sweet toppings. Other wintry food and drink specials will include hot cocktails from bar director Ian Fletcher, and mugs of soup and meat pies from Chef Nathan Beauchamp.
Calico’s holiday Winter Market is free to attend and open to the public. For more information, please visit www.calicodc.com or call 202-791-0134.

The Art League Patron’s Show @ Online
Feb 20 @ 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM

The Art League’s Patrons’ Show Goes Virtual for 2021

This year The Art league presents Patron’s Show 2021: Virtual Edition!, an online version of the perennial favorite that art lovers from near and far can safely attend via Zoom on Saturday, February 20, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The Patrons’ Show is the League’s biggest fundraising event of the year and offers seasoned and new art collectors an opportunity to select from over 600 works of original fine art donated by Art League and Torpedo Factory artists. For each ticket drawn, ticket holders acquire artwork valued anywhere from $225 to thousands of dollars.

The Patrons’ Show is now open for viewing during regular Gallery hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5:00 p.m. It is anticipated that the first two weekends of February will be busiest, so during this period there will be scheduled and timed viewing slots to ensure a safer environment.

Art lovers can also view the Patrons’ Show virtually on Flickr, and check back periodically to see what is added as we get closer to the show. Art Thief, the exclusive mobile app of the Patron’s Show, is available to download free on iOS devices. It lets you see all of the artworks and list and rank your favorites.

This year ticket holders make and submit a list of 75 or more of their top picks into an artwork list portal that the Patrons’ Show algorithm will pull and match with a ticket holder’s choice when their name is called on February 20. Selections can be edited and resubmitted up until the event begins.

The 2021 Patrons’ Show will broadcast live from The Art League Gallery. Don’t miss your chance to gain fine art while supporting a great non-profit organization and community of artists! Tickets are on sale until they sell out.

REDEYE Night Market
Nov 6 @ 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Inspired by the bustling open-air night markets of East and Southeast Asia, Peter Chang of DC’s No Kings Collective creative agency and Events DC are teaming up to create the first annual REDEYE Night Market on November 6 in Washington, DC. REDEYE will occupy four blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue NW from 3rd through 7th Streets NW and bring together over 50 treasured local vendors to showcase an array of food and beverages like one might find at a night market abroad, including Filipino pastries, Taiwanese shaved ice, bao and Korean fried chicken. In addition to sampling signature dishes from celebrated local restaurants including Incheon, Tiger Fork, Maketto, China Chilcano, Thip Khao, Nihao, attendees will enjoy cultural and musical performances throughout the evening. Admission is free of charge with food and beverages available for purchase.

The REDEYE, set for 4 pm to 11 pm, is intended to serve as a celebration of Washington, DC’s rich AAPI community and to acknowledge the challenges and economic disenfranchisement that impacted small businesses across the nation in the past year.

“This past year was especially challenging for the AAPI community, as well as for the food industry. The REDEYE is a celebration of what we are overcoming together,” says Chang.

“The REDEYE Night Market is an incredible opportunity to celebrate our city’s diversity and showcase DC’s dynamic hospitality offerings,” said Greg O’Dell, president and CEO of Events DC. “We are thrilled to bring together residents, visitors and the AAPI community for an exceptional experience of authentic cuisine and culture from some of DC’s most well-known restaurateurs and performers.”

For details and a list of participants and performances, please visit: https://theredeye.nokingscollective.com/

The REDEYE Night Market will be held in accordance with all health and safety protocols as outlined by the Executive Office of the Mayor and DC Department of Health.
