‘The Great Gatsby,’ a classic cautionary tale of the American Dream.

You’re invited June 12th, 13th, and 14th to the mansion of mysterious multimillionaire Jay Gatsby for a summer party! Join Picnic Theatre Company at Dumbarton House in Georgetown for a Roaring Twenties garden picnic cocktail, music and live action performance of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby! Selected by Modern Library as the greatest American novel of the 20th century, you’ll experience the dreamers, debutantes, strivers, socialites and criminals that populate this classic cautionary tale of the American Dream.

The green light is on! Rain or shine (if rain, Bellevue Ballroom). Bring a blanket for garden seating. Proceeds benefit Dumbarton House museum and Courage for Kids, providing backpacks with school supplies to at-risk DC kids.

VIDA Fitness Fashion Show to benefit N Street Village @ VIDA Fitness

VIDA Fitness will host its second annual VIDA Fitness Fashion Show on June 19 to benefit N Street Village, the largest service provider for homeless and at risk women in Washington D.C.  The event will be hosted by Drag Queen Ba’Naka Deveraux, actress, performer and five time winner of D.C.’s Best Drag Queen Award. Bonobos and Modcloth clothing will provide a spectacular selection of evening and swim wear worn by VIDA Fitness models.

The event’s goal is to raise a minimum of $10k for N Street Village, who welcomes approximately 200,000 homeless and low income women each year. VIDA Fitness employees have volunteered to model and Bang Salon will transform them from personal trainers to high-fashion runway models with their talented hair and makeup stylist. Bonobos will dress the men in stylish evening attire and trendy swimsuits, while Modcloth outfits the ladies in stunning evening wear and sexy bathing suits. Ba’Naka Deveraux will host and emcee the evening of glamor showcasing each outfit and model while engaging the audience with her cutting wit and charm.

The Fashion Show, a ticketed event, will also offer a variety of exciting raffle items. All funds raised will be donated directly to N Street Village.

After the models have tripped the light fantastic on the catwalk Ba’Naka will entertain guests with an exclusive performance that is sure to dazzle and shine.

Downtown DC’s newest pop up arts market launches as Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center (RRB/ITC) hosts Capital Arts Collective. The series kicks off on June 20 and continues through September every third Thursday of the month from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Locals and passersby can shop and explore a curated selection of items by the area’s most talented creatives, including everything from jewelry, paintings, candles, custom designed items, home goods, and more.

Capital Arts Collective aims to celebrate and support the local art scene. The RRB/ITC is excited to welcome homegrown artisans to Wilson Plaza; with plenty of seating and eateries it’s the perfect place for art enthusiasts of all ages, to grab lunch, browse and shop from the best creators in the DMV area. 6th Annual Well Ray Festival @  Mt. Vernon Ave in the heart of Del Ray

The Del Ray Business Association will host its 6th Annual Well Ray Festival on Saturday, June 22nd in the heart of Del Ray.  The free, family-friendly event will take on Mt. Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray section of Alexandria, a neighborhood just outside of Washington, D.C. “where Main Street still exists,” and will be a celebration of the health and wellness lifestyle movement. This year, the City of Alexandria was recognized as one of the top healthiest in America by the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, an annual ranking that provides a revealing snapshot of how health is influenced by where we live, learn, work and play (link).

Over 75 health and lifestyle inspired vendors will provide a variety of activities to allow festival-goers the opportunity to explore, heal, taste and move in achieving a healthy life. Wellness and holistic health practitioners will offer services ranging from therapeutic treatments such as massages to acupuncture, physical therapy and nutritional counseling, health screenings, meditation, and more.

Festival attendees can bring their own mat and be prepared to move during free yoga, pilates, CrossFit, spin, barre, and dance classes on the streets led by local fitness instructors. There are also a variety of kid fit fun activities for the whole family to enjoy such as dance lessons, martial arts, parkour and HITT training. Pet lovers can bring their furry friends for pet-friendly fitness activities such as training tips and obstacle work. Three musicians and celebrated Broadway stars will join the National Symphony Orchestra for 50 Years Over the Rainbow: A Judy Garland Celebration on Friday and Saturday, June 28 and 29, 2019 at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. Laura Osnes, Capathia Jenkins, and Jimmie Herrod join Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke and the NSO in recreating many songs from Judy Garland’s 1961 famed Carnegie Hall performance.  These concerts honor the cultural impact that the iconic Garland made, from The Wizard of Oz and Easter Parade to Meet Me in St. Louis, A Star Is Born, and countless others.

Join in for the third annual DC Art Book Fair!

This curated, kid-friendly event in NMWA’s Great Hall brings together small presses, artists and more to sell their independently published (largely paper-based) works. More than 40 artists will be selling creations from zines to books, from comics to prints, and plenty in between.

This event is organized by the DC Art Book Collective, and the participants are chosen by a panel of judges: Nguyên Khôi Nguyễn, artist and educator based in Baltimore; Christopher Kardambikis, assistant professor in printmaking at George Mason University; Malaka Gharib, artist and writer based in Washington; Alison Michael Baitz, graduate student in library science and children’s literature at Simmons University; LA Johnson, artist, illustrator and creative director at NPR; Elizabeth Graeber, illustrator based in Washington; and Lynora Williams, Director of the Library and Research Center at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
