Oktoberfest at Wunder Garten @ Wunder Garten

Wunder Garten (1st & L St NE) is excited to announce the 4th Annual Oktoberfest which will begin Friday, September 28 and continue through Sunday, September 30th. This year’s celebrations include a big celebration on Saturday night and a Dogtoberfest on Sunday alongside a weekend of traditional German food, games, beer and pet-friendly events.

Each day will feature live Oktoberfest music and a special lineup of events and entertainments (see below) to bring the real Oktoberfest atmosphere to Washington. Draft beers in Märzen-style hail from Bavaria’s oldest breweries like Spaten, Weihenstephaner, and Hofbräuhaus, accompanied by a select lineup of seasonal, locally brewed beers. Throughout the weekend, Café Berlin will provide authentic German fare, including grilled bratwurst, bauernwurst, bretzels und obatzter, original potato salad, gurkensalat, and sauerkraut.

4pm: Taping of the first Spaten Oktoberfest Keg of the weekend.

Traditionally, each Oktoberfest begins with the mayor of Munich tapping the first keg of Spaten beer with the jubilant cry of “O’zapft is!” (“It’s tapped!”). Incidentally, the skill the mayor displays and the number of hammer blows he has to use, play a large role in his popularity.

First Annual Flavors of AdMo Food Crawl @ Adams Morgan

In partnership with the Adams Morgan BID, Carpe DC Food Tours is thrilled to host the first annual Flavors of AdMo Food Crawl on September 29, 2018 from 11am-5pm to celebrate the rich diversity found in Adams Morgan.
This exciting self-guided culinary excursion takes adventurers around the world in one afternoon, stopping at restaurants that have shaped historic Adams Morgan, while learning about Washington, DC’s rich and storied past. The food crawl includes 6 tastes at local favorites including El Tamarindo, Federalist Pig, Le Pop, NiceCream, BUL and Zenebech.
“We’re excited to work with the Adams Morgan BID to create a trip that we’d do ourselves,” says Mary Collins, founder of Carpe DC Food Tours. “It’s the best way to learn about the District’s past and its rapidly-evolving culinary future!”
At check-in, guests will receive a special wristband and a passport with a map to redeem tapas-sized tastings like pumpkin toast, pupusas, BBQ wings, and handcrafted ice cream made to order.
The Flavors of AdMo Food Crawl is available on September 29, 2018 from 11am-5pm. Tickets are $79 per person, and include one tasting at each of the 6 locations. Vegetarian options are available at time of ticket purchase. The crawls are walkable, covering a distance of just over a mile, and are suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Oyster Wars @ The Salt Line

Returning for a second year, “Oyster Wars” recalls a time when oyster pirates roamed the Chesapeake Region, turning the humble local oyster into a delicacy revered by many. The annual fall celebration invites guests to the Capitol Riverfront for an afternoon of the finest seafood and brews from New England to Virginia.

                        Your ticket offers an afternoon along the Anacostia River featuring live music from the reggae band See-I, DJ sets from DJ Stylus Chris with friends Harry Hotter, and tastings from participating chefs and oyster farms.

Opera in the Outfield: Barber of Seville @ Nationals Park

Washington National Opera (WNO) celebrates the eleventh season of free opera broadcasts at Nationals Park with Opera in the Outfield® on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Gates open at 5 p.m. for pre-show activities with the highlight of the evening, Rossini’s comic masterpiece, The Barber of Seville, broadcast on the high-definition Nationals Park scoreboard at 7 p.m. This popular free event is guaranteed to have fans belt out, “Figaro, Figaro, Figaro!” The opera is performed in Italian, with easy-to-follow English captions shown on the scoreboard. The approximate running time of the opera is three hours, including one 25-minute intermission.
Ample free seating will be available in the stands and access to seating on the outfield grass will be limited on a first-come, first-served basis. Patrons wishing to sit on the outfield grass will receive a free wristband, which will be distributed near the Family Picnic Area (at sections 141–143) beginning at 5 p.m. Accessible seating is available throughout Nationals Park, and assistive listening devices are also available. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy the festive family-friendly atmosphere. The special pre-show entertainment will include:
  • Performances by student artists, including the annual return of vocal students from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Opera Program, starring the winner of their Virginia Williams Opera Prize as one of the featured singers.
  • A meet-and-greet with M&M’S® Brand Chief Chocolate Officer, Ms. Brown.
  • AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate demonstrations and lessons in chocolate history.
  • A screening of the Warner Bros. cartoon “Rabbit of Seville” starring Bugs Bunny. Highlighting Rossini’s celebrated overture from The Barber of Seville, this parody of the opera features frenemies Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in break-neck chases, gags and laughs.
  • Photo opportunities for kids of all ages with a living statue of Babe Ruth as well as roaming opera characters.
  • Kids can enjoy the playground, dress up with items from the Washington National Opera costume trunk, visit the craft table, have their faces painted, and experience the National Symphony Orchestra’s instrument meet & greet.
  • Chances to win prizes, including a family fun pack of four tickets to an event at the Kennedy Center, tickets to the Kennedy Center’s 21st Annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor honoring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, a prize from M&M’S® Brand Chocolate Candies, a subscription to the Washington National Opera 2018-2019 season, a pair of tickets to a 2019 Nationals home game, and more.
Hosted by WNO Artistic Director Francesca Zambello, this family community event features an outdoor broadcast of The Barber of Seville, a rapid-fire romp known to audiences for its instantly recognizable overture. The hilarious WNO production, directed by Peter Kazaras (2014’s La bohème and 2016’s The Marriage of Figaro), stars audience favorite Isabel Leonard (2015’s Cinderella), dashing American tenor Taylor Stayton in his WNO debut, and thrilling Moldovan baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky in his U.S. debut. Hailed by Washington Classical Review as “an excellent cast and production,” and Broadway World called the production, “in a word, fantastic.” This performance of The Barber of Seville was recorded during its production run at the Kennedy Center Opera House.
Opera in the Outfield® will take place rain or shine—in case of inclement weather, covered seating is available. Regular concessions will be available throughout the ballpark­. RSVP’s are not required for admission into Nationals Park for this event; walk-ins are welcome.

Due to the popularity of Opera in the Outfield®patrons wishing to sit on the outfield grass will need to pick up a free wristband when they enter Nationals Park, beginning at 5 p.m. The wristbands (one per person) will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be distributed at a table to the left of Center Field Plaza near the Family Picnic Area (at sections 141–143). Once all of the available wristbands have been claimed, an announcement will be made over the stadium sound system and field access will be closed to those without a wristband. Guests who plan to sit on the outfield grass may bring blankets, however chairs are not permitted on the grass. Ample free seating will be available in the stands throughout the evening. Park Hyatt Washington, D.C. will host a Fall 2018 Park Hyatt Masters of Food & Wine, a seasonal culinary & beverage experience on Sunday, September 30 with the Marine Stewardship Council in celebration of wild American seafood.  This seasonal culinary series salutes the local ingredients and flavors with one-of-a-kind experience for guests in attendance.  The gathering will begin with a cocktail reception, followed by a five-course seafood feast presented by Park Hyatt Washington, D.C.’s Executive Chef Troy Knapp which will conclude at sunset with a dessert reception.  This intimate event will be hosted at the exclusive, waterfront Capital Yacht Club located within The Wharf development of Southwest D.C. Tickets are priced at $195 per person (inclusive of taxes and fees). Five fishermen will be present to share stories with dinner guests of their experiences catching seafood from American waters.

4th annual Columbia Pike Fall Fest @ South Adams St. and Columbia Pike

William Jeffrey’s Tavern and the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization are proud to announce the 4th annual Columbia Pike Fall Fest!  The annual live music and food festival will take place on Saturday, October 6th from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm at South Adams St. and Columbia Pike.

This year’s event will feature Craft Beer and Wine from Twisted Vines and William Jeffrey’s Tavern.  Food vendors will include William Jeffrey’s Tavern, El Ecanto Latino, Acme Pie Company, Sugar Shack Donuts and Senzu Juicery.

Walters Art Museum Gala & Party @ Walters Art Museum

The Walters Art Museum celebrates a year of transformation at its annual Gala & Party, a memorable event unlike any other in Baltimore. This year’s theme, Metamorphosis, unites depictions of growth and renewal in the Walters’ collection with the fashion of today, and commemorates the exciting events of 2018, including the opening of 1 West Mount Vernon Place.

Guests start the evening with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. on the Sculpture Court, followed by a three-course gourmet dinner served in the galleries. At the Party, which begins at 9 p.m., guests enjoy an open bar, light fare and desserts, and dancing on the Sculpture Court.
