Join the fun in fyve lounge as hotel guests, as well as the ladies and gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City celebrate 35-year Marriott partnership with Children’s Miracle Network by offering a traditional root beer, rich vanilla ice cream, whipped cream with a cherry on top float.
During the week of August 6, participating Marriott International hotels throughout the United States and Canada will host root beer floats fundraising activities with the proceeds going directly to local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Root Beer Float Day is a nod to Marriott’s beginnings when company founder, Bill Marriott, Sr., and his wife Alice opened two root beer stands in Washington, D.C., in the 1920s.
Young professionals ages 21-35 can enjoy after-hours access to Ford’s Theatre and Museum at Under 35: Museum Night on August 16, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Patrons are invited to mix and mingle in the Ford’s Theatre Museum, see historic artifacts related to Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and assassination, and explore the 19th-century theatre where President and Mrs. Lincoln attended performances. Guests will interact with staff members 35 and under who can share information on Ford’s Theatre history and current programming. Each $20 ticket will include two drink vouchers. This event is part of Generation Abe, a Ford’s Theatre initiative to reach out young adult audiences ages 35 and under. Generation Abe will feature special events that will include behind-the-scenes access to the historic site and social events related to theatrical productions.

Boundary Stone’s fifth annual barrel-aged beer competition will take place Tuesday, August 21 from 5:30pm – 9pm for DC Beer Week.
Tickets for the event will be $25 in advance and $30 at the door and can be purchased online at boundarystonedc.com. Each ticket includes a four ounce taster of each beer and a vote in the contest.
The Battle of the Barrel-Aged Beer pits local breweries against each other as they each try to wow the public and the judges with a special barrel-aged brew. Each year’s winner gets to choose the beer or barrel style for the following year. Defending champions Right Proper have chosen white wine barrels for this year’s contest. In addition to selecting the style for next year’s competition, the winner will receive a dedicated tap line at Boundary Stone, a special Battle of the Barrel-Aged Beer trophy, and the love, admiration and respect of beer drinkers across D.C.!
The official event begins at 5:30pm with the winner being announced at 9pm. Special guests include brewers and representatives from all competing breweries as well as local celebrity judges.
“Havana Nights” at the Rooftop at Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel – Friday, August 31
To kick off Labor Day weekend, the Radiator team will embrace the island flavors of Cuba and host a “Havana Nights” fiesta on the rooftop at Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel. On Friday, August 31, Executive Chef Jonathan Dearden will be cooking up a selection of complimentaryCuban-inspired snacks. Food lovers will delight in Latin-inspired bites such as Tostones (shrimp, avocado, black beans, corn salsa), Summer Rolls (green papaya, mango, chili pepper, lime, cilantro), and Chicken Tacos (jicama, yellow salsa). Chef Jonathan’s popular Cuban-American mash-up Cubano Sandwich (chorizo, serrano ham, braised pork, mustard, pickles) will also be making a special appearance. DNV Rooftop will round out the holiday weekend fun with a Sunday night “Wear Your Whites” party on Sunday, September 2. Guests are encouraged to don their finest summer whites for an evening filled with delicious food and drink, summertime beats, and sunset photo ops.
While the rooftop party goes until 1:00 a.m., guests arriving at the start of celebration may take advantage of food deals from 7:00-9:00 p.m.The DNV Rooftop team will be offering favorite brunch and dinner dishes from the season including the Avocado Toast, Shrimp & Grits,Wagyu Burger, Rosemary Fries, Superfood Nachos, and Grilled Veggie Wrap. Join Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) on Sept. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. to toast to conservation at Zoo Uncorked. Uncork and unwind at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo with wine tastings from esteemed wineries from the D.C. area and beyond.

Former National Press Club President Thomas Burr will serve as the host, while Dr. Jacques Bailly, the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s official pronouncer, will officiate.
