Museum visitors can revel in the extra hours of daylight and reflect on American unity with “America Now: Solstice Edition” on Saturday, June 23. This special evening of festivities is a three-museum collaboration between the National Museum of American History, National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum. Now in its fourth year, the tri-institutional partnership of “America Now” will coincide for the first time with a full Smithsonian-wide Solstice celebration.

Continuing the festivities, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery will host an array of activities across art and performance. Guests will be welcomed by an outdoor Community Block Party composed of food trucks, lawn games and craft-making activities with local artists organized in collaboration with Made in DC. They can connect with representatives from the Downtown BID, Woolly Mammoth Theater Company, Shakespeare Theater Company and Fresh Farm Farmer’s Market. Visitors can then cool off at a boutique-designed Beer Garden inside the Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard, have their portraits done by a Washington-based caricature artist and explore the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery’s exhibitions throughout the first floor. “America Now” will conclude with dancing to the sounds of DJ Ayes Cold and a major live concert by Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics, and Washington’s own Oddisee.
“America Now” is a three-museum collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, National Museum of American History and Smithsonian American Art Museum. It is made possible by the support of the Robert and Arlene Kogod Family Foundation. The Washington Post is the media sponsor of America Now. This year’s celebration is part of a Smithsonian’s “Solstice Saturday” program done in association with the “By the People Festival,” led by Halcyon. DC recreational focus organization, DC Fray. today announced the 2nd Annual DC Field Day will take place on Saturday, July 28th at the RFK Stadium Grounds. Known for their mission to make fun possible for adults throughout the DMV through their sporting leagues and events, this signature event is a throwback to grade school, built with adults in mind. The event brings out hundreds of professionals wanting to let their hair down and enjoy a nostalgic time over classic games with a twists such as sack races, tug-of-war, giant ping-pong, dizzy flip cup, giant bowling, two legged hula hoop relay, an obstacle course, and a few other surprises. In addition to the lawn fun, the event will include, food trucks, a bar, live music and a Field Day market with samples & swag for individuals and teams. Individuals are encouraged to grab their friends, start a team, join as a group, or sign up solo and get ready for the ultimate day of fun, friends, and games to celebrate summer.
Standard team tickets cost $45/per person and includes a beer ticket voucher and a voucher to spend in the Field Day shop and all the field game fun. There is also options for corporate level team pricing in which a business can cover up to 25 players to participate from their firm.

On Saturday, September 22, the Urbana team will host a festive dinner in honor of the Feast of San Gennaro, an Italian-American holiday observed on September 19 every year. Guests may enjoy a special menu of Executive Chef Ethan McKee’s take on Italian-American classics such as eggplant parmesan and tiramisu. Urbana’s dining room will be dressed in red and white, checkered tablecloths while a jazz quartet covers the music of Frank Sinatra and other Italian-inspired greats, adding cheerful ambiance throughout the evening.

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host local residents and families on the waterfront of the National Harbor to celebrate Saudi National Day on September 23, 2018, starting at 3pm and culminating with a vibrant fireworks display at 8pm.
Saudi National Day commemorates the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932, and is celebrated each year in Saudi Arabia. For the 88th anniversary of the country’s establishment, the Embassy will entertain guests of all backgrounds at the National Harbor – in an effort to share its cultural heritage with the DC community. There will be a plethora of cultural activities, food, music, art, and games – and entertainment for guests of all ages, including stilt walkers, balloons, magicians, temporary henna tattoos, giveaways, and Ferris wheel rides on the Capital Wheel.
