Tips for Parkinson @ Provision 14

Team Fox Young Professionals of Washington, DC is pleased to announce the second annual Tips for Parkinson’s event on May 9, 2018 at Provision 14 to raise money for The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). Last year, the District’s inaugural Tips for Parkinson’s event welcomed 200 guests and raised nearly $40,000 for Parkinson’s research. This year, the group hopes to eclipse that number, having already raised over $30,000 in advance donations. Supporting that effort are this year’s honorary co-chairs, Representatives Carolyn Maloney from New York, Hank Johnson, Jr. from Georgia, and Gus Bilirakis from Florida, who are members of the Congressional Caucus on Parkinson’s Disease and will be in attendance.

The event will include a silent auction, featuring vacation packages, signed sports memorabilia, concert tickets, and a breakfast and live podcast taping with sports commentator, Tony Kornheiser. Also up for auction are numerous gift certificates redeemable at many of the District’s favorite bars, gyms, and restaurants. Finally, there will be raffles throughout the night that will include prizes like tickets to see Hamilton at the Kennedy Center.

Tips for Parkinson’s is a unique social and networking experience that combines great food and drinks and a guest bartending competition to raise funds and awareness for MJFF. The $40 event entry cost includes drinks poured by competing bartending teams and unlimited, delicious food from the Provision 14 kitchen. 100% of funds raised from this event will go straight to research.

MJFF is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s Disease through an aggressively funded research agenda and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson’s today. MJFF has funded more than $750 million in research around the world and has no endowment. Every dollar raised is immediately deployed to advance research with the best chance of leading to new Parkinson’s Disease therapies and, ultimately, a cure.

Steven is a leading expert on honest, interpersonal communication, with a focus on performance and change success. A prolific writer on an array of professional and self-improvement topics. Steven’s books include: Just Be Honest, Honesty Sells, Honesty Works and Be A Change Champion. Steven had a bout with cancer in 2009 and he is subsequently cancer free since. His response to his shocking diagnosis and the ensuing treatment regimen was to “keep the right perspective and appreciate life.” His outlook clearly reflects the spirit of hope that is the essence of We Will Survive Cancer. In honoring Steven Gaffney, we celebrate his life and work and offer an inspirational message from which we all will benefit.

ZooFari: Dine for Wildlife @ Smithsonian National Zoo

Nearly 100 of Washington, D.C.’s best restaurants will descend upon the Smithsonian’s National Zoo for ZooFari: Dine for Wildlife, the area’s biggest and longest-running food and drink tasting event hosted by Friends of the National Zoo. On Tuesday, May 22, 2018The National Women’s History Museum will host its Women Making History Awards in Washington, D.C. The annual event commemorates the achievements of women and the importance of preserving women’s history and highlights the need for a national women’s history museum on the National Mall.

This year’s event honors award-winning journalist and author Cokie Roberts, and #MeToo movement founder Tarana Burke. CNN’s chief political correspondent, Dana Bash, PBS Contributing Correspondent, Alison Stewart, will also participate in the program.

5th Annual White Party @ Decades

Washington Redskins teammates — cornerback Josh Norman and tight end Vernon Davis — announce that they will co-host the fifth annual White Party benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) and Norman’s Starz24 Foundation.

The highly anticipated summer soiree, originated by former Redskins player Pierre Garçon and with a head-to-toe all-white dress code, is taking place on Saturday, June 2 at Decades (1219 Connecticut Avenue NW). The sleekly-decorated rooftop boasts palm trees, tropical plants and greenery-covered privacy walls across the 2,500-square foot space, making for the perfect backdrop for the evening.

Local pro athletes, NFL executives, community leaders and Washington VIPs will rub elbows for a good cause, helping to raise money for BGCGW and Starz24 that will foster a new generation of innovative and talented future leaders nationwide.

“As a native Washingtonian, I have always wanted the best for my city, so giving back in this way is personally important for me,” says Davis. “It feels amazing knowing that our event will help make dreams come true for some of Washington’s best and brightest kids.”

“My Starz24 Foundation is all about developing future skills in our young people and the White Party will help us widen that reach,” adds Norman. “When Vernon and I talked about teaming up to make this event a reality, I knew we could have a real impact by working together.”

The White Party will feature a premium open bar, passed hors d’oeuvres donated by Barcode and a live auction.
