· Events DC Nation’s Triathlon features Sprint and Olympic distance events. The triathlon features a swim, bike, and run through the monument corridor, before finishing at West Potomac Park. Participants will receive a finisher’s medal, technical t-shirt, post-race breakfast and complimentary massages.
· Races-Within-a-Race: The Events DC Nation’s Triathlon features several Races-Within-a-Race including a First Responders’ Challenge, Tri Club Challenge, Herbalife Congressional Challenge, and Military and Uniformed Services Challenge. There is also a Collegiate Challenge as part of the sprint race.
· The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society returns as the official and exclusive charity of the event; Nation’s Triathlon is the only triathlon in the country to benefit research toward a cure for blood cancers. Through the Team In Training program, participants have raised more than $14 million for blood cancer research and patient service programs.
· Meter Marked Buoy System: The race features a comprehensive swim buoy system, which marks every 100 meter of the swim course for both the Sprint and Olympic distances. The buoy system provides clear swim course sighting for participants and enhances general water safety measures.
· Sport & Fitness Expo: Focal point of all pre-race activities where all participants pick up race packets, attend safety briefings and mingle through the exhibitors and sponsors at the Expo. · Finish Line Festival: Located in West Potomac Park, the Finish Line Festival will feature entertainment and live music for the whole family. The Awards Ceremony will conclude the festival at 11:30 am.

As the first major multiracial band with an openly gay frontman, Culture Club has broken tremendous ground since its 1982 debut. It was the first band since The Beatles to have three Top Ten hits in the United States from a debut album and was named to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s list of 500 songs that shaped rock ’n’ roll with “Time (Clock for the Heart).” At the zenith of its popularity Culture Club dominated the charts in over a dozen countries, with multiplatinum albums and more than 50 million albums sold worldwide to date. In 2014, Culture Club reunited to create new music for its forthcoming release, Tribes.
In 1982, the band released the defining album Kissing to Be Clever, which yielded the massive breakthrough hit “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me,” as well as “Time (Clock Of The Heart)” and “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya,” followed by Colour by Numbers in 1983 which featured the irresistible “Karma Chameleon.”
The band earned many accolades for its breakout success. In 1984, Culture Club won the Brit Award for Best British Group, the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and Best British Single (“Karma Chameleon”). In that same period they were also nominated for the Grammy Award for Pop Vocal by Group or Duo, a Canadian Juno Award for International Album of the Year, and an American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group Video Artist.
The band’s infectious recordings were made all the more irresistible by frontman Boy George, whose cross-dressing, heavy make-up, and biting wit created an image which was completely unique on the pop scene.

Best-selling author Larry Tye will speak about his latest book, “Bobby Kennedy: The Making of a Liberal Icon,” during an event hosted by the Human Rights Campaign, (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization, at its national headquarters on Monday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m., 1640 Rhode Island Ave. NW, Washington, DC. The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (www.goldentriangledc.com) will host Chef Kazuhiro “Kaz” Okochi, the head chef at the award-winning KAZ Sushi Bistro at 1915 I Street NW, for an outdoor cooking demonstration, Fri., Sept. 16, from Noon–2 p.m., during Farragut Fridays at Farragut Square Park (at the intersection of K St. and Connecticut Ave. NW). Attendees will learn from Chef Kaz as he prepares a twist on okonomiyaki – a popular Japanese dish, sometimes referred to as “Japanese pizza.”
Okonomiyaki, which is more like a crepe than a pizza, is made from a rich savory cabbage pancake in an egg and flour batter with pork belly, red ginger, smoky dried bonito flakes, Japanese mayonnaise, and a special sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. Samples will be available on a first come, first served basis.
The chef demonstration is part of Farragut Fridays, a weekly outdoor activation of one of the city’s most well-known national parks, which draws more than 39,000 visitors over the summer. Throughout the day, the Golden Triangle BID invites people to use the free Wi-Fi at Outdoor Office and enjoy a variety of pop-up events including adoptable puppies, scavenger hunts and music during lunch. The programming serves as an additional amenity for workers and tourists, as it’s occurring a block from the White House. On Saturday, September 17, the fifth installation of DC’s largest craft beer festival, Snallygaster, will return to Yards Park. Named for the fearsome and mythical dragon-like beast said to terrorize the region at the turn of the century, Snallygaster is a craft beer festival from the team behind ChurchKey, Birch & Barley, Bluejacket, Rustico, The Sovereign and more. For this momentous fifth year, no fewer than 350 unique craft beers from around the globe will be offered against a backdrop of fine food, live music and entertainment all at the Capital Riverfront from 1 PM to 6 PM. Snallygaster will also feature live music including performances from Speedy Ortiz, local artists and DJ’s who will provide entertainment from start to finish. Beer Director Greg Engert is crafting what will undoubtedly be the largest and most unique beer list of any Snallygaster to date. Guests can expect to find nearly 50 brews making their DC debut at Snallygaster 2016, dozens of vintage beers, more than 75 barrel-aged brews and sour ales, a wide array of autumnal releases, a deep list of German-style beers, a slew of craft cans, plus cask ales and Franconian gravity-poured/rubber-clad kegs. Of the 350 craft brews tapped on September 17, some standouts will include Cantillon Fou’ Foune, Founders CBS, Allagash Ghoulschip, Aslin Bringing Sexy Back, Firestone Walker Krieky Bones and Perennial Barrel-Aged Abraxas. Malmaison, the Georgetown waterfront warehouse turned modern event space, will be the scene of the intimate, costumed soiree ushering an end to summer.
Around 8pm on September 17th, Georgetown’s Malmaison event space will come alive with revelers in costumes, burlesque, live body painting, belly dancing, immersive art and more. The event, entitled Boudoir Bohème, will have a bevy of roaming live performers, and a DJ to move the venue’s guests with rhythmic world grooves.
Boudoir Bohème:
“A night where standard conventions and behaviors are thrown out the door, where everyone is an artist, and is free to be whoever they wish. We invite you to escape.. indulge in the intimate and exotic.. travel across oceans without ever having to leave… take on a new name.. become your alter ego..”
Boudoir Bohème is a costumed soiree, inspired by the Battle of Hernani, Romanticism and Bohemians of 19th Century Paris. Although called a battle, the Battle of Hernani was actually an altercation which lasted several days between members of the bourgeoisie, or Classicals, and those of the Romantic movement which were made up of young artists, writers and painters. The Classicals who were considered the old guard establishment or status quo, enjoyed traditional ideals, literature and social norms; while the Romantics emphasized individualism, nature and imagination as a basis point, and embraced spontaneity and artistic emotion in their works and life.
The altercation took place during the opening night of Victor Hugo’s play Hernani, which was itself considered a radical attack on the established order. The ‘Romantic Army” attended the production in outlandish clothing, mocking the wealthy and mainstream, and were later remembered by Hugo as: “…wild whimsical characters, bearded, long-haired, dressed in every fashion except the reigning one, in pea-jackets, Spanish cloaks, in waistcoats a la Robespierre, in Henry III bonnets…and this in the middle of Paris in broad daylight”.
Boudoir Bohème is a celebration of creative freedoms and expression.. a night of mischief and immersive performances, where live music, dancing barefoot and intimate rituals are the norm. The night’s performers include:
DC legend and deep house pioneer Enea Diotaiuti who will be spinning a web of tantric music. His sets are known to put audiences in a tranquil yet manic trance, unique to his blend of modern yet instinctive melodies.
New York’s Danger Dame, Veronica Varlow brings her sensual mix of mesmerizing song and dance to the evening’s festivities. Referred to as a “modern-day Marlene Dietrich” Varlow has performed internationally and was recently named one of the 12 “Hottest Ladies of Burlesque” alongside such icons as Bettie Page, Lili St. Cyr and Sherry Britton. She has been featured on the Tonight show, Asylum Magazine and the New York Daily News.

MARK RUSSELL
Long before Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, Mark Russell dared to joke and sing about the often-absurd political process. Though he actually knew little about politics when he began performing, his ability to find humor in anything made him an immediate hit. After serving in the Marines, Russell began playing at a piano bar on Capitol Hill before he earned a 20-year stint at the Shoreham Hotel. Russell’s television credits include nearly 30 years on public television on the eponymous Mark Russell Comedy Specials. His composing credits include two children’s musicals for the Kennedy Center: Teddy Roosevelt and the Ghostly Mistletoe (premiered December 2009) and Teddy Roosevelt and the Treasure of Ursa Major (2006).
Reading three or four newspapers a day allows him to constantly update his material. The result is that no two shows are ever identical. “I thrive on newspapers,” he frequently states. “And it looks like I’ll be thriving longer than them.” Russell performs annually at colleges, conventions and theatres, including frequent visits to Ford’s Theatre. He and his wife live in Washington. Russell is the father of three and the grandfather of seven.
Ford’s Theatre Society
One of the most visited sites in the nation’s capital, Ford’s Theatre reopened its doors in 1968, more than a hundred years after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Operated through a partnership between Ford’s Theatre Society and the National Park Service, Ford’s Theatre is the premier destination in the nation’s capital to explore and celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s ideals and leadership principles: courage, integrity, tolerance, equality and creative expression.
The Ford’s Theatre Society was founded under the guidance of executive producer Frankie Hewitt, who, during her 35-year tenure, established Ford’s as a living, working theatre producing performances that highlighted the diversity of the American experience. Since the arrival of Paul R. Tetreault as Director, critics and the theatregoing public have recognized Ford’s for the superior quality of its artistic programming.
