Over the past weeks, Washington City Paper readers have voted for their favorites in more than 300 categories ranging from “Best Place to Take a Foodie” to “Best Cultural Festival” to favorite “Place to Buy Vinyl.” The results of this year’s poll will be revealed in theApril 9th issue of the paper, with winners feted during the annual Best of D.C. Celebration later that evening at the Carnegie Library (801 K Street NW).

“With thousands of votes cast each year in our Reader’s Poll, the Best of D.C. issue is always one of our most popular issues,” says publisher Amy Austin. “We’re excited to toast all the winners at the celebration on April 9th and invite the public to join us!”

The Best of D.C. Celebration will feature bites from 50 area restaurants, a beer tent, cocktails from 10 of the region’s best mixologists, food trucks, live music on multiple stages and puppies! NMWA Annual Spring Gala @ NMWA

On Friday, April 10, 2015, the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), under the gracious patronage of His Excellency the Ambassador of Italy and Mrs. Laura Denise Bisogniero along with NMWA’s Board of Trustees, will celebrate its Annual Spring Gala in celebration of the special exhibition Picturing Mary: Woman, Mother, Idea.

Upon arrival, guests will have the opportunity to view Picturing Mary, which explores the concept of womanhood represented by the Virgin Mary as well as the social and sacred functions her image has served through time. This landmark exhibition organized by NMWA brings together more than 60 Renaissance- and Baroque-era works from the Vatican Museums, Uffizi Gallery and other museums, churches and private collections in Europe and the United States.

The annual black-tie gala will continue with cocktails in the galleries and an exciting auction followed by dinner and dancing in the elegant Great Hall. The 2015 Gala Auction Chairs are Jacqui Michel, Frances Usher and Debra Latiolais.

Spring has nearly sprung! To celebrate the coming of the season,Capitol City Brewing Company  is gearing up to host its second annual  Mid-Atlantic Spring Beer Festival  on  Saturday, April 25 at  The Village at Shirlington  in Arlington. The springtime beer-tasting jubilee will include 35 area craft brewers all hailing from the District, Maryland and Virginia featuring many local favorites and several newly opened breweries. New this year, all participating breweries will sport their own exhibition tents that showcase their company creations and colorful brand designs. A variety of Shirlington Village restaurants and local eateries will feature their favorite springtime fare with music provided by a popular local DJ. Festivities begin atnoon and concludes at 7 p.m. (ticket sales begin at 11:30 a.m. and all beer taps close at 6 p.m.)
Admission for beer drinkers is $30 (one general admission pass per person), which includes a wristband, official tasting glass and 10 drink tickets. Additional drink tickets can be purchased for $1 each with a five-ticket minimum. The event is free for non-drinkers and children. Mid-Atlantic Spring Beer Festival 2015 will be held rain or shine with tickets sold at the event.

In this 10th anniversary week of opening its hallmark Music Center, Strathmore announces that iconic actressJulie Andrews will celebrate A Dazzling Decade by speaking at the art center’s 10th Anniversary Spring Gala on Saturday, April 25, 2015.With a career that has spanned decades, traversed a myriad of artistic disciplines, imbued fans with fond memories, and inspired millions, there’s no one better to headline this celebration of the past decade, while looking ambitiously toward the future.  Gala guests will begin the evening at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails, followed by a sumptuous dinner, program with Julie Andrews, and an after party with Big Ray and the Kool Kats.

An Evening with Julie Andrews will include a Q&A with the audience and discussion moderated by Washington Post Theater Critic Peter Marks. She will share clips, stories, and conversation about her illustrious, history-making career. Music will be performed by the Strathmore Children’s Chorus. Andrews will not be singing.

The 10th Anniversary Spring Gala symbolizes a major milestone in Strathmore’s history, and will be the stage for announcements of future initiatives for the organization, which has become a touchstone for life and culture in Montgomery County and the greater Washington metropolitan region.  Since it opened in 2005, over 1.8 Million people have attended a performance in the Music Center at Strathmore. Many more have come through for education programs, special events, free community concerts, and festivals. There have been nearly 2,000 performances in the Music Center since its opening, including those by founding partner the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and resident partner organizations The National Philharmonic and Washington Performing Arts.

Strathmore is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. An agency of the Department of Business & Economic Development, MSAC provides financial support and technical assistance to non-profit organizations, units of government, colleges and universities for arts activities.
Strathmore is also supported in part by the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.
