Sommelier Showdown!

Wine-loving Washingtonians kicked off the 13th annual DC International Wine & Food Festival on Thursday evening with endless bottles of wine – and some quizzical toasting!

Five of DC’s top sommeliers displayed their wine knowledge during the inaugural Sommelier Showdown.  Professional oenophiles were given nine glasses of different wines to swirl, smell, and taste in just 20 minutes and asked to identify the wines with hidden labels. Brent Knoll from Adour won ‘best in bottle’ with the test’s top grade — a 7 out of 9!

Not one to brag about a personal win, Knoll instead boasted about his pride in DC’s entire “community of chefs and sommeliers” for bringing about “a restaurant scene in DC that now has the potential to not only be like New York but also compete with New York!”

Score one for the city’s snappy sommeliers.
