Giuliani Marks 10th Anniversary of 9/11 at Press Club

“Do I roll up up into a little ball and have people showing me like that on television like that?” posed two-term Republican Mayor of NYC Rudy Giuliani as he spoke of his source of strength and personal experiences during the 9/11 attacks at a luncheon at the National Press Club Tuesday afternoon.  “My Father said: ‘If you’re ever in an emergency, remain calm… and if you aren’t calm, pretend you are.”

Ten years (almost to the day) after the day he claimed was “the worst day in my life, my city’s life and maybe our country’s life” Giuliani spoke about why he felt the United States hadn’t sustained any further attacks… and his suggestions for staying on the offensive.  In brief:

  • Don’t underestimate your enemy,
  • Don’t be afraid to face your enemy,
  • Don’t be afraid to discuss the situation honestly, and
  • Don’t be “hobbled by political correctness.”

“My biggest fear is that we’re going to get to the 10th anniversary and people are going to believe it’s over,” lamented the (still) potential Presidential candidate.  “9/11 is not part of our history, it is part of our present reality.”
