Flight & Fancy

La Maison Française at the Embassy of France was transformed into a gallery of student art Friday evening for the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative gala “Taking Flight: The Transformative Power of Arts Education.”

Amidst DC students’ butterfly sculptures and paintings, NBC4 News Anchor Wendy Rieger (above) emceed the awards ceremony to honor The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. An exciting live auction conducted by columnist Bob Levey followed, offering guests the chance to support the DC Collaborative and snag a relaxing week in the woods of Irvington, VA, a business-class trip to Paris, tickets to the Macy’s Parade among others. The night concluded with a packed dance floor thanks to the musical stylings of DJ Jahsonic.
The benefit brought together arts education supporters who, as Wendy Rieger passionately articulated, want to “give children a way to express themselves.”
