[Vid] Ian McCabe Explains Balayage

Celebrity colorist Ian McCabe and his team at the new Ian McCabe Studio in the West End have cut and colored celebs like Zac Efron, Claire Danes, Mandy Moore, Cynthia Nixon, Molly Simms, Debra Messing, Lynda Carter and Miranda Cosgrove.  Not wanting to be left out of their entourage, we stepped into the studio for a new do of our own late last week (thanks, Isabel!), and stole a few minutes with McCabe himself to find out more about his favorite hair painting technique — Balayage.

Often referred to as “color painting,” Balayage is a French coloring technique that allows artists to create depth and dimension through the hand painting of individual hairs or sections.  “It’s a sweeping technique; you are laying product on the surface of the hair,” McCabe explains.    “Hair painting is for everyone; it’s a technique, and you can create anything with it.”  And, according to the expert colorist, Balayage creates a much more natural affect.

Open a mere three months and already squeezing in appointments for everything from color to cuts, glossing treatments and blow-outs, McCabe and his team are ready to supply the city with what he suggests is one of the best hair trends of 2014 — really beautiful color.  “I think people are using hair color as an accessory, which I’m really excited about… Hair color is just as important as the finished look.”
