Bar Angie Brings Big Apple Charm and Euro Chic to DC’s West End

Just when you thought the team behind Dupont Circle’s buzzing Greek hit Balos couldn’t outdo themselves, they’re back — this time with a sultry new concept that’s part downtown sophistication, part European romance, and all-around irresistibly stylish. Now open in the West End, Bar Angie promises to be your next go-to for a martini-fueled lunch, a moody dinner with live jazz, or a laid-back patio brunch that somehow turns into happy hour.

Tucked into the corner of 2300 N St. NW, Bar Angie is the latest creation from Stefanos Vouvoudakis, Tom Tsiplakos, and Joe Ragonese — the trio behind Balos Estiatorio Restaurant Group. All native New Yorkers, the founders set out to recreate the energy and intimacy of their favorite NYC neighborhood bistros while layering in the kind of elegance and ease that defines European café culture.

A Menu with a New York Accent and European Soul

Bar Angie’s menu is comfort food with polish, bringing classic bistro dishes to life with flair and a touch of indulgence. There’s the already-talked-about Wagyu French Dip, a mouthwatering sandwich served with creamy horseradish, mozzarella, and tableside au jus. Then there’s the Bolognese Blanc, featuring handmade rigatoni tossed in white wine sauce and crowned with a wagyu ragu and imported Parmigiano Reggiano.

But the showstopper? That would be the Angie Chop Martini — a thin, crispy pork chop that channels the best parts of Milanese technique and NYC boldness, finished with lemon, hot peppers, red wine vinegar, and a generous dusting of parm.

Not to be outdone, the Caesar Salad gets a clever twist with fried cream cheese croutons and everything bagel seasoning — a playful nod to the Big Apple’s most beloved breakfast item.

All About the Martini

At its heart, Bar Angie is a martini bar, and the cocktail program leans into that identity with panache. The signature Angie’s Dirty Duo is a no-holds-barred homage to the dirty martini — icy, savory, and served with an extra pour on the side, complete with a flight of garnishes. Espresso martinis also shine here, thanks to a curated lineup from For Five Coffee Roasters, another NYC transplant tied to the restaurant group.

From a casual midday meetup to a late-night rendezvous, Bar Angie’s cocktail menu is built for versatility — much like its neighborhood. Positioned between the offices of the World Bank, GW’s bustling campus, and the corridors of the city’s medical district, Bar Angie is uniquely poised to become the neighborhood’s next hotspot.

The Vibe: Paris Meets Manhattan (in DC)

The space, designed by boutique firm Origin, exudes old-world charm with modern finesse. Think: hand-pulled Roman plaster, Mediterranean mosaic tile, subway accents, and a zinc bar destined to age beautifully with time. Rich lighting and curated art give the space a lived-in elegance, while a terrace adorned with climbing flora offers an urban escape that will bloom just in time for spring.

In a city where live music in restaurants is rare, Bar Angie is going bold, offering live jazz several nights a week. Expect the kind of genre-bending sets you’d hear in a Parisian café — pop, rap, and classics all reinterpreted with soul and rhythm.

So, Who Is Angie?

“Angie is all of us,” says Vouvoudakis. “She’s brunching on the patio, catching up over martinis, or dancing to live jazz at the bar. She’s worldly, chic, and fun — just like our guests.”

And just like Bar Angie. A space where New York nostalgia, European allure, and DC’s cosmopolitan energy collide — all in one martini-fueled, music-filled, beautifully lit bistro.

Bar Angie will be open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch served on Saturdays and Sundays.
