One Stadium, Endless Stories
RFK Stadium opened in 1961 and was home to the Washington Commanders – Washington’s professional football team, hosted the return of baseball to the District with the first three seasons of the Washington Nationals and housed D.C. United before Audi Field was built. In addition to the many Washington professional teams, the stadium hosted games for the 1994 World Cup and the1996 Olympics.
RFK Stadium also hosted many cultural events including world-class concerts featuring The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, U2, and local favorites Wale, Rare Essence, Backyard Band and HFStivals.
