Yes… but Does She Golf?

Recently, I was invited to participate in the annual Marine Corps Scholarship golf tournament at the Army Navy Club. Having “participated” in golf tournaments before – usually to hand out the awards – I was a bit stunned when asked to bring my clubs … I was going to PLAY!

I went to buy balls and the “Pro” sold me a huge box of about 40 pink and yellow balls. Apparently I was expected to lose most of them on the course, and in the event that I didn’t hit them too far into the woods or the water hazards, the colored balls would be easier for me to find.

Luckily for me, we played a style explained as “Best Ball” and I did have the best ball – once. I only lost two pretty pink balls in the course of 18 holes, and spent a wonderful afternoon learning not only about the wonderful game of golf, but about the merits of the Marine Corps Scholarship Program. Over $31 million in scholarship funding has been awarded thus far!

It was certainly a fun time, but by the end of the afternoon I was ready to be back in my comfort zone – handing out the awards!

This time I want to send out my appreciation to the three patient golfers who played with me, most notably the the President and CEO, Christopher Randolph – thank you!
