Multimedia play: Hear Me Say My Name

“I am not your mascot, and I don’t live in a tipi. See me for who I am, hear me say my name.” How do stereotypes of American Indians, prejudice, and identity shape the discussion of what it means to be a young person in our country today? This original multimedia play, created in collaboration with Smithsonian Associates Discovery Theater, tackles America’s assumptions about American Indians and starts a conversation with audiences reclaiming rich history, challenges, hopes, and dreams. After the play, the audience is invited to explore the museum’s Americans exhibition to learn more.
This program is generously supported by the Rasmuson Foundation. Free; first-come, first-served seating. No registration is required.

Holiday Drive-In Movie

5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Tysons Corner Center is bringing back it’s Drive-In Movie Nights. The fun will kick-off at 5:00 PM (movie starts at 7:30 PM) and will last until the movie has concluded with food available from participating eateries as well as some live entertainment, trivia, and music prior to the show. Tickets for Elf will be released the week of November 23rd.
Reservation required, with a donation of $10 or more to FOOD FOR OTHERS, a local nonprofit providing food to neighbors in need. Reservation link.
Those Funny Little People – Virtual Holiday Performance

Those Funny Little People is a one-of-a-kind entertainment company with life-sized puppets who dance, sing, and make people laugh. Making their television debut in 2011, Those Funny Little People appeared on the TV show America’s Got Talent as four elves, an agent, and a showgirl. The group resonated with audiences everywhere and placed within the top 36 acts. Enjoy their holiday entertainment from the comfort of your home. The Art League’s Patrons’ Show Goes Virtual for 2021
This year The Art league presents Patron’s Show 2021: Virtual Edition!, an online version of the perennial favorite that art lovers from near and far can safely attend via Zoom on Saturday, February 20, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The Patrons’ Show is the League’s biggest fundraising event of the year and offers seasoned and new art collectors an opportunity to select from over 600 works of original fine art donated by Art League and Torpedo Factory artists. For each ticket drawn, ticket holders acquire artwork valued anywhere from $225 to thousands of dollars.
The Patrons’ Show is now open for viewing during regular Gallery hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5:00 p.m. It is anticipated that the first two weekends of February will be busiest, so during this period there will be scheduled and timed viewing slots to ensure a safer environment.
Art lovers can also view the Patrons’ Show virtually on Flickr, and check back periodically to see what is added as we get closer to the show. Art Thief, the exclusive mobile app of the Patron’s Show, is available to download free on iOS devices. It lets you see all of the artworks and list and rank your favorites.
This year ticket holders make and submit a list of 75 or more of their top picks into an artwork list portal that the Patrons’ Show algorithm will pull and match with a ticket holder’s choice when their name is called on February 20. Selections can be edited and resubmitted up until the event begins.

Virtual Family Fun: Miniature Garden Workshop

Celebrate Earth Day and connect with nature as you build a magical, miniature world, inspired by Hillwood’s Japanese-style garden, in the first gardening workshop for families.
The seasonal Alexandria Makers Market will pop up on Sunday, September 26 from 12:00 p.m. -6:00 p.m. at Port City Brewing Company in Alexandria. This family-friendly event will showcase the creative community of Alexandria-based creators, makers, designers, & crafters, with vendors curated from highly talented artisans located in Alexandria. A diverse mix of nearly 20 local makers will pop-up and take over Port City’s parking lot, creating a safe and socially distant shopping experience, while enjoying a Port City pint or two.
