Kids in the Castle @ Heurich House Museum

On Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 11am-2pm, the Heurich House Museum will open its doors for free, kid-friendly, self-guided tours. Kids in the Castle gives families the chance to explore the ornate details of the Heurich family home. Children and parents are invited to wander through the house at their own pace and complete a photo scavenger hunt to win prizes. Once visitors have finished their tour, they can relax and play games in the museum’s Castle Garden (weather permitting).
Typically, the museum is not open to children under 10, but during this special event, children are the main focus.
This German influenced family home provides visitors a glimpse of the past, and exposes children to a different time in DC’s history. Children can let their imaginations wander as they take in three floors of this ornate mansion, while also learning about history in a fun and engaging environment.
Guests may arrive at the museum anytime between 11am and 2pm. Touring through the house will take between 30 minutes and 1 hour. There will be two levels of hunting to accommodate all ages!
This event is free, but registration is suggested.

American Pops & Yoga! @ Arena Stage

Instructor Michael Peterson will guide attendees on a 70-minute journey through yoga and meditation on Saturday, April 13, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater-Molly Smith Study, 1101 Sixth St., SW, Washington, D.C.

Earth Day Plogging @ Raymond Recreation Center

VIDA Fitness is teaming up with DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to clean up the District while breaking a sweat for Earth Day. D.C residents are invited to join in the second annual Plogging event, picking up trash while jogging, as they run a preset two mile course beginning at Raymond Recreation Center.

Ploggers will be provided with trash bags and gloves to use as they run and pick up litter. VIDA Fitness and DPR will ensure appropriate disposal of all trash collected during the plogging event. This event is free and open to the public. 

After plogging VIDA Fitness will provide snacks and drinks for all participants. Sign up is requested to ensure enough supplies are on hand for all ploggers.

WHEN:             Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 10 a.m.

WHERE:           Starting at Raymond Recreation Center VIDA Fitness and DPR will lead joggers on a designated two mile route through Northwest DC.

WHY:               To clean up the trash and litter in the District in honor of Earth Day

Walters Art Museum Presents Second-Annual Community Youth Arts Celebration @ Walters Art Museum

Learn how the next generation of Baltimore’s artists and leaders are harnessing the power of creativity to tell their stories. As part of the day’s activities, attendees can create their own museum memes, buttons, and custom banners, learn how to screen print with Jubilee Arts: Youth in Business, and make a personalized zine with Baltimore Youth Arts. Special guests include the Enoch Pratt Free Library, Baltimore Ceasefire, and Open Works. Performances include screenings with Wide Angle Youth Media, musical ensembles with two Arts Every Day schools, and the Lethal Ladies of Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women step team.

The day’s festivities include Behind the Façade, a program of original monologues by Baltimore School for the Arts theater students. Performed in 1 West Mount Vernon Place, this performance brings to life the range of people, enslaved and free, who made Mount Vernon their home in the years before and after the Civil War.

Wanderlust Mindful Triathlon

Wanderlust, producer of the largest yoga lifestyle events in the world, in partnership with adidasbrings Wanderlust 108, the world’s only mindful triathlon, back to Washington DC on May 19, 2018.  Coming to The Lawn at Oklahoma Avenue, Wanderlust’s unique triathlon consists of a five-kilometer run (or walk), a music-fueled, outdoor yoga class led by Faith Hunter and a guided meditation led by Tracee Stanley. Mindful triathletes can also groove to the sounds of DJ Jesse Blake, browse the marketplace of local craft and food vendors, and experience bonus fitness classes throughout the day.

New for 2018, participants in North America will be able to choose from an array of premium ticket options to create their perfect Wanderlust 108 adventure.  Prices start at $30, with premium packages from $99.  Wanderlust will donate $1.08 from every ticket sold to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS with (RED). To date, (RED) has generated more than $500 million for the AIDS fight, supporting HIV/AIDS programs and services in eight countries in Africa. 100% of money raised goes to work on the ground—no overhead is taken. Local and organic food vendors will be on site, as well as a retail store experience created by adidas and Wanderlust housed in a 60’ geodesic dome.  Items from the adidas x Wanderlust co-branded collection will be sold on site at each event.

The NOVA Wine Run at Vintage Virginia 5K race will start and end at the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival and will be run on both grass and pavement. As you finish your race you will find yourself immersed in the largest Wine & Food Festival in Northern Virginia with over 200+ wine from over 25+ VA wineries. In addition the will be a special wine garden especially for runners. Teams are encouraged to dress the part and we’ll have a costume contest. All runners are welcome to stay at the Festival. Join us – entries are limited.

VIDA Fitness Fashion Show to benefit N Street Village @ VIDA Fitness

VIDA Fitness will host its second annual VIDA Fitness Fashion Show on June 19 to benefit N Street Village, the largest service provider for homeless and at risk women in Washington D.C.  The event will be hosted by Drag Queen Ba’Naka Deveraux, actress, performer and five time winner of D.C.’s Best Drag Queen Award. Bonobos and Modcloth clothing will provide a spectacular selection of evening and swim wear worn by VIDA Fitness models.

The event’s goal is to raise a minimum of $10k for N Street Village, who welcomes approximately 200,000 homeless and low income women each year. VIDA Fitness employees have volunteered to model and Bang Salon will transform them from personal trainers to high-fashion runway models with their talented hair and makeup stylist. Bonobos will dress the men in stylish evening attire and trendy swimsuits, while Modcloth outfits the ladies in stunning evening wear and sexy bathing suits. Ba’Naka Deveraux will host and emcee the evening of glamor showcasing each outfit and model while engaging the audience with her cutting wit and charm.

The Fashion Show, a ticketed event, will also offer a variety of exciting raffle items. All funds raised will be donated directly to N Street Village.

After the models have tripped the light fantastic on the catwalk Ba’Naka will entertain guests with an exclusive performance that is sure to dazzle and shine.
